FanFooty’s appearance on A Current Affair

m0nty and FanFooty on ACA

Blink and you’ll miss it! I was kindly flown up to Sydney late last year by Google to do this interview to talk about their AdSense program and get a sneaky plug in for FanFooty, although the resultant story concentrates rather more on the bloke in the yacht than your humble correspondent… but if you were the editor, wouldn’t you? 😉

So if I click on the ad at the top of my page, you’ll make money? If so, that’s a pretty sweet deal!

So when does the boat arrive 🙂 Well congrats, you must be making a fair bit of cash. I did ok with adsense on my first website adsl2exchanges.com.au which i sold recently and now trying to build up a new website (as well as donating time to dt talk).

Ah, so you’re THAT Chad! Now the penny drops! I liked what you did with their live scoring pages.

I’m not a boat person, BTW. If I get rich I’ll buy a corporate box for Hawks home games. 😀

THAT chad? what you have me on a dart board or something? I thought u knew i was that chad, also chadleverington on BF.

Thanks, we have a few idea’s for the live scores page for this year, i think moving more to the compact/mobile phone sort of version because the fanfooty/ajax scores dont work so well on all mobile phones (and we can’t compete with you on desktops).

Why Hawks games? get a MCG box, then u get grand final tickets every year.

Actually I was thinking of getting off my bum and finally making a mobile live scoring app this year. That’ll stuff yez. 😛

Oh well, wouldn’t surpise me you copying DT Talk 😉 hehehe next you will release SMS score alerts 🙂

Would be good to see you do a mobile one, you seem to update the icons more that the DT talk boys (they are normally on the cans) and you get alot more chat/support. Might try and contact you about the upcoming DT year if that’s ok.

Congrats Monty. You are making all that “Free Money” and you never have to “work a minute of overtime”! Thought they undersold how hard it is!

Chad: You mean Monty is going to Copy you guys copying him? 😉

On the Corp Box at the Hawks, Monty, giving me more incentive to give you more of my good ideas!

    GO HAWKS

monty u got like 1 of the best jobs ever, web design talking about footy. dont think it could get much better then that

  14. Chad

    January 10, 2009 at 9:44 am

Hogwash Molly, we looked after the mobile market long beore fanfooty 🙂

we have mobile scoring pages (iphone.dreamteamtalk.com and sms score updates before fanfooty thought about it 😉

Corp Box would be alot more than a boat, and a boat is less ongoing cost. A holiday house would be nice too, but i’m getting off topic 🙂

Well Monty, if you are full time, that benefits us all. There has been a significant improvement on your website in the last six months.
Loving some of your articles/info this year. DTTalk is prob more fun, but your website is definitely more informative. Keep up the good work. If I win DT this year, I’ll be sure to give your website a mention!!

Hey Simon, I love the DT Talk boys, and they know that. I’m certainly behind any move to create more fantasy football media, and they’re some of the best around. They’re certainly better than the video crap that the AFL posts with Francis Leach and Wayne Schwass!

BTW I had thought about mobile stuff before, and actually had meetings with multiple companies about setting some things up, but they fell through. I might get back on the horse for this year though.

monty, save us a seat in that box will you? ill be clicking the ads all day haha

    January 11, 2009 at 6:51 pm

If you make make 6 figures a year out of fanfooty then that is pretty good. Good luck to you! I disabled my AdBlocker for your website a few months back when I heard that is how you funded it. I’ve clicked on a few ads since then also.

  19. dylan

    January 11, 2009 at 6:52 pm

so monty each time we click ads do u make money? and if we click lots of times do u make more or they tell by ip address so once we click once u dont make anymore?

  20. m0nty

    January 11, 2009 at 8:07 pm

Just to make it clear: no, I don’t currently earn six figures out of FanFooty, I was talking about the possibility of doing so for 2009.

Also, it’s against the rules of the system for me to talk about clicking ads, so don’t get me in trouble please! 😀

New to the website Monty and you’re doing a good job. All the other sites are blocked by my work over here so very happy yours works.

better click on some ads for you in your honour.

Good luck to you Monty. Have to laugh at Current Affair implying its easy money, forget all the dedication and hard work you’ve obviously put into the site.

Keep up the good work, I need your insights to improve my fantasy scores!

    Hi Monty

Congrats on appearing on ACA. Good to see 🙂

While the story was good at selling the (possible) lifestyle, @OtherDan is right… Easy money it is not! Look at the history of the sites featured in the story – all have been around for quite some time, and all are getting very good traffic!

And that’s something that just doesn’t happen for “anyone with a web site”.

So if you are interested in pursuing this dream… be prepared to put in the hard yards before you make a down-payment on that yacht!

    Cheers

Congratz Monty. I won’t lie, I’m jealous you can make a living out of it and although I assume the living isn’t extremely comfortable at the moment I can guarantee if you keep up the updates and hard work that in a few years it could be very lucrative.

One question though. Do the AFL/Virtual sports care about this?

(Oh and I just clicked an add ;))

m0nty, I used your live scoring on my mobile all season last year. It worked fine and was still set out pretty well on the smaller screen. Can’t see any reason to change it.

  27. XztatiK

    January 15, 2009 at 3:13 am

And Chad, you do realise that your old site looks a lot like “ADSLsexchanges” at first glance? 😛

What’s this? Live scoring to your mobile! Wish I knew about this last season. How do I go about getting it?

I was right into last season – finished top 20 in SC. Would’ve loved to have got scores while I was out and about!

If you’ve got a web browser on your phone just go in that and key in http://www.fanfooty.com.au. Simple.

It’s good to get injury updates from it too, if you’re at a game. I vividly remember seeing that ominous little tombstone next to Brett Burton’s name while I was sitting near the Collywobbles cheersquad at the G – probs the worst moment of the season. Flowering bullshower.
