Blog log from R6 of 2019: Sydney vs Western Sydney

Sinclair sends the footy inside 50 where Dawson flies laterally across the pack to clunk a courageous mark. From 35 on a slight angle, his kick is straight through the middle! (Q1 3:45)
Dawson intercepts a GWS inside-50. His rebounding attempt is overly ambitious, giving Whitfield a shot at goal. Lachie has no problem with the 40m set shot! (Q1 6:11)
A quick De Boer shot from a GWS forward-50 stoppage flies the wrong side of the post. Minor score for the Giants. (Q1 9:16)
After a period of high pressure acts in GWS’s forward pocket, Josh Kelly is able to throw a quick shot on the boot. It’s wide. (Q1 12:00)
Kelly has another opportunity, this time from the opposing pocket. His outside-of-the-boot snap is to the narrow side. (Q1 15:31)
The Swans turn it over coming out of defence. After passing through a few sets of hands, Daniel Llyod has no trouble slotting the 40m shot on the run. Goal to the Giants! (Q1 16:37)
Coniglio marks in space inside the forward 50 and will go back and have a shot. With no significant angle, the captain kicks the Giants’ third major of the night. (Q1 18:01)
Greene chips the footy into the pocket where a leading Cameron marks in front of Melican. On a tough angle, he starts it and finishes it to the near side. (Q1 20:01)
Tomlinson scraps a kick out of a contest forward of the wing. Cameron picks up the loose footy and snaps an incredible goal on his left from outside 50! (Q1 22:01)
Sam Reid pegs one back for the Swans with a composed pickup and snap from just inside the attacking 50. Rowbottom was the assisting man while Ronke provided a strong contest. (Q1 24:01)
Tom McCartin’s leap is high and his hands are sticky. He has no troubles with the 40m set-shot finish as the Swans slot two in a row. (Q1 27:45)
With poise, Adam Kennedy pops it over the top to Coniglio. Jake Lloyd makes his earn it but Stephen marks nonetheless. He goals from 35m just before the QT siren. (Qtr Time)
Himmelberg taps the footy cleverly into the path of a running Greene. An almost-certain goal is foiled by some last-second Cunningham pressure. Through for a behind. (Q2 3:57)
Ronke sends the footy to the hot spot where Heeney takes a splendid pack mark. However, a free kick was paid to Blakey against Williams for a block. The youngster goals from 30. (Q2 7:30)
Williams turns over the footy in a dangerous position, giving Heeney the opportunity to soar over Coniglio and intercept. Isaac kicks the goal from 45m, directly in front. (Q2 11:31)
Sydney’s attacking play results in a kick to the advantage of the second-gamer, Rowbottom. James can’t convert. (Q2 15:17)
A high, hopeful clearance from the wing lands in the lap of Sydney’s Sam Reid who was able to hold front position. His set shot from around 50 is flawless as Sydney take the lead. (Q2 16:41)
Himmelberg has a set-play chance to put his Giants back in front, but he can’t convert. (Q2 18:31)
An unfortunate OOTF ricochet from Thurlow gives the dangerous Greene a look from the pocket. His drop-punt finish is superb! (Q2 21:17)
Amongst a pack of 25-or-so players deep in the Giants’ 50, Josh Kennedy’s attempted soccer clearance ricocheted off the leg of Daniel Lloyd. It dribbles and squeezes in for a goal! (Q2 29:42)
Sydney’s Sam Reid pounces on a loose ball and dishes to Parker who snaps an important goal nearing the HT siren. (Q2 33:46)
With the last opportunity of the half, Hopper’s long-range, running shot from 50 flies through for a minor score. (Half Time)
Papley is penalised for incorrect disposal, allowing Cameron the chance to slot the first goal of the second half. From 52 on a slight angle, it sails through the middle! (Q3 2:23)
An under-pressure Himmelberg passes by hand to Cameron who snaps with the hope of 2 goals in 2 minutes. Jeremy’s 45m snap looks online but bounces wide. (Q3 5:11)
Tomlinson plays the percentages and bombs it forward to a dangerous area. Himmelberg stands tall, clunking a strong mark. His 40m attempt hits the post. (Q3 9:36)
Blakey centres beautifully from the flank to Jake Lloyd at a true CHF position. Lloyd links up with the leading Parker who marks, lines up, and goals from 45! (Q3 13:14)
A running Papley snap from the HFF is knuckled over the line by Shaw for a minor socre. (Q3 15:06)
A desperate Sam Reid (Sydney) dives at full stretch to touch a slow-dribbling Daniels goal attempt. An inconclusive review results in a goal to the Giants. (Q3 16:49)
Edit: Daniel Lloyd was the Giant credited with that controversial dribbling goal. (Q3 20:36)
Daniels sets it up to the one-on-one contest between Coniglio and Melican in the hot spot. The Swan is penalised for holding the man and Coniglio has no trouble slotting the goal. (Q3 21:34)
Lachie Whitfield is able to pounce on a loose ball in the forward line and, despite being on one leg, hastily snaps the goal with Cunningham hot on his heels. (Q3 22:50)
Tomlinson illegally grabs the bigger-bodied Sinclair, giving away a free kick within scoring distance. From 25 with no real angle, Callum steers it home! (Q3 23:59)
Shaw is pinged for deliberate OOB in the pocket, but Papley can’t convert his opportunity. (Q3 26:07)
Williams finds Himmelberg who hits the leading De Boer with a simple 20m pass. He strikes it beautifully! (Q3 29:56)
Taranto is able to find some space amongst a pack on the Giants’ HFF. He takes a couple of steps to line up, then kicks the classy running goal. (Q3 31:05)
With 7 seconds until 3QT, Jake Lloyd kicks in front of Papley on the flank. The speedster collects, sidesteps, dances, turns, bounces, and snaps a phenomenal goal from the pocket! (3 Qtr Time)
Greene bullies through a tackler in a show of strength, then mongrels a kick goalward which sneaks in for a major. (Q4 2:10)
Kelly has time to size up his options from the pocket. With nothing on offer in the corridor, he elects for the magic checkside banana, which he executes flawlessly! (Q4 6:12)
Greene offloads by hand to Cameron who snaps over his left shoulder from the hot spot, but misses. (Q4 8:27)
Call it a mark or a free kick as Heeney lines up for a set shot from 40. On a simple angle, he hangs it out to the right. (Q4 10:40)
Hopper finds Cameron in space deep in the pocket. On the good side for a left-footer, Jeremy runs inboard, snaps, and goals! (Q4 13:12)
After the centre clearance, Josh Kennedy smothers, follows up, and throws it on the boot, landing on the chest of Blakey. The youngster kicks truly! (Q4 14:20)
The Giants forwards sync up through Cameron, Finlayson and then Greene. The latter kicks the right foot snap from the pocket. (Q4 18:54)
From 45 on a tight angle, Coniglio slots his fourth goal of the day! (Q4 24:41)
A hasty roving snap out of a congested pack sails over the goal umpire’s head. Goal to Jordan Dawson! (Q4 26:41)
A sliding Greene takes the mark in the GWS forward pocket. Electing for the drop punt, Toby hits the post. (Q4 26:55)
