But things turned around after he had surgery on his shins to address the problem head on and Senior coach Ross Lyons left the club taking key defender Zac Dawson with him. Sure Simpkin still had to work hard, but new coach Scott Watters wanted him to succeed and they certainly had a spot for him as a key defender. Simpkin recently said "Once Zac left I knew there was an opportunity there. Obviously it wasn't going to be handed to me just because we were short on key backs, Scott let me know that straight away. On day one of pre-season I knew I had to work hard." | ||||
