NEWS: Mitchell had an injury interrupted 2012 season, and so has returned to training earlier than his team in anticipation of making his debut this year. Mitchell told sydneyswans.com.au "I had knee tendonitis all year, which kept me out for most of the season and then I had a stress fracture in my foot towards the end of the year, so the medical staff thought it would be best to wind the season up early and try to prepare for season 2013. With the team going so deep into the finals this year we start (pre-season) a bit later, so with me being injured, it's good to come in and get a bit of a head start and try and be as fit as I can before the other boys come back. My break started a little bit earlier than everyone else so I wanted to take this opportunity to really get my fitness up before the full pre-season begins."
| ||||
NEWS: Mitchell was involved in a contest on the weekend in which he was told that the foot injury may be a break. Mitchell told sydneyswans.com.au "The good news is that the first scan I've had on it has shown it's not broken, which is good. I'm pretty happy with the result because I was already starting to look towards pre-season for next year, but now I've got another opportunity to hopefully play a few more games this year and I'm just going to keep trying to improve." Mitchell still has aspirations of playing this season but realises he is running out of time "The seniors are going really well at the moment and whatever they're doing it's working very well, which is a good thing. You never know what can happen and a chance could come my way later in the year. I've just got to focus on doing the things I need to improve on in the reserves and we'll see what happens."
| ||||
NEWS: Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron told SwansTV "His knee tendonitis problem has slightly returned, so we've taken a conservative approach and pulled him out of last week's game to give him two weeks with the bye. He should be back running next week."
| ||||
NEWS: The damage was 42 possessions, 6 marks and a goal in only 70 minutes.Tom's father Barry Mitchell said "His pre-season was very restricted. He's nowhere near the match fitness required for senior football. You then put them on a program to slowly build fitness, but unfortunately you're always behind. I think we're going to see the best of Tommy in the next couple of years once he gets a pre-season or two under the belt. He is a footballer. We know he can find the football. While he's found it he certainly has a few areas of his game to work on at the moment, but he's a good listener and he's prepared to do that.''
| ||||
NEWS: Mitchell told sydneyswans.com.au late last week "I'm very excited to play my first game for the club. I'll be playing in the reserves and it will be good to get involved with the boys, and I can't wait to play my first game." Mitchell has been battling a knee complaint for a large chunk of pre-season. He played in the NEAFL for the Sydney Swans.
| ||||
NEWS: Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron told sydneyswans.com.au "We've got young Alex Brown, Tom Mitchell and Matt Spangher all due to start training with the team next week." Mitchell has had no setbacks from his injury.
| ||||
NEWS: This entire pre-season, information on Tom Mitchell's injury has been extremely vague coming out of the Sydney Swans. We have finally got some substantiated news with Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron saying "Tom Mitchell has been training now for a couple of weeks, and we're hoping that if his training goes according to plan then he's going to be able to resume in the next week or two."
| ||||
NEWS: Mitchell is still dealing with a hamstring injury and looks in doubt for Round 1. Unfortunately he needs to be taken off your rookie list. Hopefully he can still play early in the season and be traded into the side.
| ||||
NEWS: Longmire discussed on Radio that Mitchell is far from a certainty for Round 1 and they want to develop him slowly. Pull the brakes up on this premium Cash Cow until further notice. He may be injured with knee tendonitis. Wait on official word.
