NEWS: Onlookers were staggered in Round 19 when Simon Black began the game as the substitute. Black came onin the 3rd quarter and still influenced the game with 15 possessions, bringing his team back into the contest and eventually tagged to close out the game. Brisbane coach Michael Voss said "Blacky's at a stage where we've got to manage him. The choice is that, or we don't play him at all and I'd rather have Blacky for a quarter-and-a-half than not at all. Simon Black is a champion of the game. His value is unquestioned in our football team. Would I like to play him for four quarters? Yes I would. But we've also got to manage his body until the end of the season."

NEWS: Brisbane coach Michael Voss believes he will consider all options if he can get Black to continue playing for the Brisbane Lions in the future, even playing Black in the first half of each game and being subbed out. Voss recently said "There's some merit in that but there's still some stigma attached to the sub, and putting a great player in a jacket doesn't look that great. But if it means making the career of our players that little bit longer, and they can add something valuable, we'll look at all options. He has mentoring and leadership, and just how he's held among our group, as long as we can get Simon Black we'll look at all those avenues."

Lions Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Matt Hass told LIONS TV as part of the Bupa Recovery Report "Blacky got a knock to his knee, but it was nothing too sinister. It was just a knee clash with another player, so he's tracking along fine (for this week)."

NEWS: Black took an early guilty plea for an elbow on Western Bulldogs' tagger Liam Picken in Round 13. Black recently said "Whenever you're charged by the Match Review Panel and get off it's a relief," Black said, prior to Lions' training on Thursday morning. It's just one of those things. It's something I shouldn't have done. Over the years I've remained focused on what I've got to do and that's what you've got to do week in and week out. I haven't played at the Gabba for a few weeks so I'm looking forward to Sunday afternoon."

NEWS: Black will likely miss the upcoming 2 Rounds with a knee injury. Lions' coach Michael Voss said "I think Blacky will miss. We'll rest him up, put him on a bit of ice, he's earnt the rest. We have to throw it to a bunch of other guys that we expect to be able to step up. He's got some genuine soreness there and we need to make sure we look after him and give the chance for a few other guys to get the job done."

NEWS: Black actually injured his knee earlier in the week playing with his child. The injury has stayed with him since and was subbed out of Round 9 with the injury not improving. He will have scans on Monday. Speaking at the Lions' recovery session on Monday morning, team mate Aaron Cornelius said "I'm not 100 per cent sure if he'll play this weekend or not. If 'Blacky' plays this weekend it'll be fantastic, but if he doesn't I'm sure there'll be plenty of guys ready to take his spot. Blacky is a one-in-a-million player, so to have him in the team is always great but those guys (young midfielders) have got to step up. The older guys won't be around forever so if we can step up and put in good performances like we did in the third quarter that's very encouraging."
