NEWS: It is becoming very likely we will see Stephenson support Trent West this weekend as they battle Aaron Sandilands. Geelong Coach Chris Scott suggested "It's no secret we're a little bit thin, we've gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in some respects with our ruckmen." This statement doesn't exactly shower you with confidence in Stephenson's potential ability.

NEWS: Stephenson is a 29 year old, taken by the Geelong Cats with pick #78 in the National Draft. Why is he being drafted? Geelong has lost Brad Ottens and need an experienced head to fall on in the Ruck department. Stephenson is that guy. He has been playing for the North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL and has absolutely dominated against at times AFL Ruck options. He is super strong and his endurance for a big man is solid. Expectations need to be pulled back on Stephenson being named in Round 1. Chris Scott has suggested recently that Stephenson has got quite a bit more work to do before he is given the opportunity against Aaron Sandilands. Scott also mentioned that Stephenson only took small steps forward in his NAB Cup debut. Stephenson will get plenty of hit outs and perhaps 10 possessions a game. We still like him as a solid Ruck bench option. He actually averaged 95 Dream Team points a game last year over 19 games but this is a big step up in class, and he won't be breaking records like he did, at VFL level. Cash Cow Proposition: Stephenson is a chance to line up with Trent West playing forward. His pre-season form suggested he actually took steps backwards, but is still on the radar. | This is a 2012 outlook article.

NEWS: Trent West is the young and talented future of the club, but it is still believed Stephenson has a role with the club. West is showing a talent in the forward lines as a strong contested mark. They could easily go down this road, with West pinch hitting in the Ruck.

NEWS: He certainly does not currently hold the starting job in Geelong. That honour goes to Trent West, but Stephensen could still play a supporting role up forward and pinch hitting in the Ruck. This is something to monitor over the next month. They played together on the weekend in the first round of the NAB Cup.
