Injured Leuenberger steps up at Lions trainingESN - Mon 4/2, 10:23PM
NEWS: Matthew Leuenberger has completed his first full training session since tearing his achilles last April. "I'm rapt. It's been a long time coming," Leuenberger said. "My heart rate was pumping a bit before (the session) just thinking about it. It's a bit exciting for me, it's been a while." Leuenberger has been building over the pre-season, incorporating more running, more agility and more jumping as the weeks have passed. He is adamant he will be right for the season-opener against the Western Bulldogs.

Injured Leuenberger shutdown for the seasonESN - Tue 7/8, 5:18PM
NEWS: Leuenberger will take no further part in season 2012 after Brisbane made a decision not to risk the Ruck option. General manager of football operations Dean Warren said "Matthew has been slow in his rehabilitation throughout the year, so we will not be taking any risks in trying to bring him back before he's ready. While it's obviously disappointing for Matthew, his welfare and long-term fitness is first and foremost. This is the best course of action to ensure that he is fully fit and ready to go in 2013."

Injured Leuenberger sessionESN - Thu 5/7, 11:50AM
NEWS: According to afl.com.au "Leuenberger did a skills session at the Gabba on Monday and completed three quarters of the Lions' main training session on Wednesday and said he now just needed to regain fitness." Leuenberger believes Round 18-19 is a realistic return date although he has not comfirmed this with the coaches saying "That's my goal. I haven't talked about it with the coaches, it's more about just getting back fit enough ready to play again but my goal is to get back in the senior side and re-establish myself in there. It's awesome. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel, it's all coming to an end now. The next month will hopefully go really quick and I'll be out there and playing before I know it."

NEWS: Leuenberger completed his first running session this week and is looking at a Round 18-19 return to AFL football. Injured Leuenberger progressing wellESN - Wed 23/5, 5:17PM
NEWS: Leuenberger is progressing well from his Achilles injury but is still a long way from returning. Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton said "Leuey's injury is obviously very disappointing for him, however his attitude to his rehabilitation has been fantastic. We won't be taking any risks with his rehab progressions, given the severity of the injury, the position he plays and the tasks involved with that (i.e. Jumping) and the load a player of his size (204cm) puts through his Achilles. At this stage we won't be putting an exact return to play date as it is more of a progression-based rehabilitation than a time-based one. So for now he will be listed as 'indefinite' and when he is back running again we will have a clearer idea of when he is likely to be available to play."
