NEWS: To think Hodge has hardly played football all season. He slipped back into the Hawks senior side, was pushed forward, kicked 5 goals and was then subbed out of the game at the end of the 3rd quarter. A perfect return. Hodge said post-match "I felt pretty good out there. If one of the boys had have got injured, I would have been able to keep playing that last quarter. It's obviously going to be a little while before I'll be able to play full games in the midfield, but we've still got five games to go. Touch wood, I can get through all the games and be fit for finals."

NEWS: Playing forward on Hardingham.. 5.0 from 16 possessions and 6 marks. Subbed off at 3QT for Savage.

NEWS: Hawthorn General Manager - Football Operations, Mark Evans said of Hodge's game in the VFL "He went really well, he played about 80 minutes of the game and looked terrific out there. He did an amazing blind turn, kicked a goal, laid tackles and did everything we asked of him. He's going really well and he could play this week, or he might get another game in the VFL."
| ||||
NEWS: Hawthorn teammate Sam Mitchell says "He's certainly a chance. He's put his hand up to see if they can find a role for him that he's able to play. He's pulled up pretty well and he was pretty vibrant this morning. But it's just a management issue. It's a big game on Friday night, at Etihad Stadium, a hard ground, so it's whether that's the best preparation for him, or whether it's better to have another week at Box Hill."
| ||||
NEWS: Hodge had 24 possessions in Round 17 for Hawthorn affiliate Box Hill in the VFL. Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson told his post-game press conference on Saturday afternoon "There's a number of options available to us. Whether we choose to play him next week against Essendon, he could sub next week or he could play another game in the VFL. We'll assess that on Monday or Tuesday, look at his recovery and his GPS and how much running he did."

NEWS: Hodge suffered another setback last week injuring his posterior cruciate ligament after a strong training session. General Manager - Football Operations, Mark Evans said in response to Hodge's knee "That knee has settled down really well and we're delighted with that. He's had the fluid drained and some other treatment. He's trained really strongly on the weekend and at the start of this week. Where he ends up at the end of this week, we'll probably wait until Friday to make an absolute definitive answer." It is looking likely Hodge will return to AFL in Round 18.
| ||||
NEWS: Hodge left training yesterday with some swelling in his knee. General Manager - Football Operations Mark Evans said "Luke has had some fluid drained from his knee and we would expect it to settle quickly. We anticipate Luke will be able to train at the end of this week, and depending on how quickly the swelling settles, we expect him to resume playing within the next 2-3 weeks,"
| ||||
NEWS: Hawthorn football manager Mark Evans said "The thought was to give him another week of full training." This will be Hodge's 4th week of training in full without game time. He is wearing a large knee brace while he trains. Hodge seems highly likely to return in Round 16.
| ||||
NEWS: Hodge is a chance to return this weekend in Round 15 against Greater Western Sydney. Team mate Brendan Whitecross said at the Ricoh Centre on Monday "I'd expect him to be back either this weekend or next."
| ||||
NEWS: Hodge has signed a 1 year extension with the Hawks, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2013 season. Hodge told hawthornfc.com.au on Monday "I can't really complain, missing half a season of football, when you look at the injuries that some of my teammates have had in the past. I think I've still got four or five years left in me."
