NEWS: Folau missed a training session this week for 'personal reasons' and is in doubt to play on the weekend. It is all quite vague at the moment, and it is best to wait until teams are announced.

NEWS: Jonathan Brown went without a possession in his debut game and suggested "I think Israel Folau has got to be judged as a debutant. There's a few debutants that have played well, but more often than not you struggle to get a kick.The majority of the AFL world was looking at him like he is a star like he was in rugby league, which he's not, he's a debutant, he's just starting out, so it's going to take time. Especially for a key position player and especially trying to play key forward in the modern game, I think that's a pretty instinctive sort of position."

NEWS: 3 possessions was the damage for 22DT/28SC. Kevin Sheedy has continued to back his high profile recruit suggesting "You just don't know how a person of his calibre and talent will eventually learn the game. It does take a while and we're going to go through that. We've got to go through it."

NEWS: Rotating from FF on Richards to ruck... causing damage with his body on other players but no damage on the stat sheet in Q1... 3 possessions and 7 hit outs

NEWS: Kevin Sheedy recently told ABC Radio that "I think he's starting to lift to the occasion. He's just sort of starting to show a few signs." This comes on the back of Paul Roos recently telling Melbourne's SEN Radio that "he's probably getting $200,000 to play and he's probably getting $800,000 to market."

NEWS: Folau is an incredible athlete and we suspect he may surprise many this year. He began in defence playing for the Giants at lower level, but a mid season move up forward has been brilliant for his development. He has already been guaranteed a Round 1 spot. At 6'4" and 101kg frame, he has the athleticism to leap at anything. He knows how to catch an oval shaped ball. He is a Rugby player and has been doing it on the biggest stage for years. The biggest issue is that the ball will not be up forward a great deal for GWS, and Folau will have opponents like he has never seen before. Cash Cow Potential: His first game went through to the keeper and many asked questions. 3 handballs was his damage. No kicks. The $8 Million Man has been showing much better development since then with a couple of games in the 50s/60s. This is his likely peak. | This is a 2012 outlook article.

NEWS: Folau discussed on Tuesday that "I've just got to be a little bit cautious with my technique and all that sort of stuff, going into tackles, but I'm not going to change the way that I go into it. I'm going to be aggressive."
| ||||
NEWS: Folau has been cleared to play by the Match Review Panel after being booked for two rough conduct charges on the weekend. Folau is the face of the Giants and a big AFL marketing promoter for Rugby followers. The AFL will take a sigh of relief.
| ||||
NEWS: Critics have questioned if Folau needs to change the way he tackles after being booked twice on the weekend. Giants chief executive officer David Matthews told SEN radio on Monday morning "he tackles very well; he's just an exceptionally strong guy. Both incidents ... involved tackling, so the degree to which he's tackling - that's really going to be the question. It's nothing untoward (and) there was nothing outside the spirit of the game, from what I could observe."
| ||||
NEWS: Folau was reported in the final round of the NAB Cup against Richmond. According to the AFL website "there was very little in a slightly raised arm against Daniel Jackson in the second quarter." It seems unlikely Folau will serve any time, not to mention, it would be detrimental to the AFL, if Folau missed the opening round of the season.
| ||||
NEWS: Greater Western Sydney will play the Sydney Swans in Round 1 of the season and Folau has openly discussed the fact that he won't hold back against Adam Goodes.
| ||||
NEWS: Folau pushed forward in the second half and was dangerous enough to have the best defender on him. He was taking contested marks and working hard tackling, chasing, harassing to earn more respect.
| ||||
NEWS: Kevin Sheedy is keen to play him in all positions this year as he learns more about the game and where he is best suited. Folau is a large man and an exceptional athlete. He may quite easily get his hands on the ball in the tap work with his big leap.
