NEWS: Geelong Coach, Chris Scott suggested "If it was 30 years ago I don't think he could do that." But it is in fact 2012, where you simply cannot retaliate with violence. It seems a constant achievement that Ballantyne can get so much under the oppositions skin, that they retaliate and cost their own team so much. Let us not forget, he had 20 disposals, two goals, and four tackles in Round 1. He was very busy getting the ball as well as niggling the opponent. As much as he frustrates you as the viewer, he may be a genius.

NEWS: Geelong coach Chris Scott said "Evidence would suggest they probably did [get sucked in by Ballantyne]. I'd like to think they were aware he would do it. You don't have to watch too many Freo games to see him niggling people." Ballantyne is fast becoming the most renown pest in the AFL, taking the mantle from other names such as Jake King & Steven Milne.
| ||||
NEWS: Head to head with Kelly... 2.2 from 20 touches and 4 tackles. An off the ball hit on Chapman in Q1 will be looked at.
| ||||
NEWS: Ballantyne will likely have a case to answer after striking Paul Chapman in the first quarter, behind the play.
| ||||
NEWS: It looks like the talk over the off-season is coming to fruition. Ballantyne will have a midfield role in 2012. Ballantyne is a serial pest across half forward, taking advantage of any opportunity and driving even spectators crazy. He is going to dominate in the midfield. If he is as fit as they say he is, look out!
| ||||
NEWS: All pre-season he has been in preparation for a midfield role. He has changed his running style to limit his issues previously with Hamstring injuries, he has worked on his tackling attack and he has pushed his fitness base to the Nth degree. Ross Lyon has mentioned he wants Ballantyne to be in the midfield rotation. All this is leading to a probable breakout onto the AFL scene in 2012.
| ||||
NEWS: He is pushing his fitness to the nth degree and training with the midfield group. They plan to play him in the midfield group during the NAB Cup and we have high hopes for this little dynamo in 2012. He has serious potential to score big buckets of points this year if he can stay on the park. Now that is a big if. His track record does not give you comfort. It's not ideal to assume a fresh start and a strong pre-season means great things for somebody who is prone to injury. Please see Shaun Higgins 2011. Ballantyne is a classic risk Vs Return proposition.
| ||||
NEWS: Why not? He is an absolutely electrifying small forward. There is no doubt he could add some serious explosiveness to Fremantle's midfield if he has the fitness base he has lacked in previous seasons. He will also need to conquer the injury proneness he has had in his first 3 seasons of AFL.
| ||||
NEWS: Its raining injuries in Docker land. Ballantyne's hamstring is not in a good way and they will likely shut him down for the season now that finals seems more unlikely.
| ||||
NEWS: 1.0 from 12 touches and 4 tackles on McMahon... succumbed to a left hamstring pull in Q4
| ||||
NEWS: Joseph on him... 2.4 from 23 touches and 4 tackles with 9 marks... plenty of Q4 garbage time stats
| ||||
NEWS: Dempster on him... no touches in Q1... 11 disposals | Ballantyne also had 4 tackles.
