NEWS: Elliot Kavanagh intends to speed up this year as he sets himself to hold down a senior position in Essendon's midfield after a full pre-season. "Everyone looks to be able to play in the seniors and be at that standard and I think that this year I can give it a red hot crack with the pre-season I've had," Kavanagh told AFL.com.au. "My goal for the season is to run around with the best and be out there playing AFL footy for as many games as I can. And if I am playing in the VFL, [I want] to put some quality efforts in every time and not let the standard drop."

NEWS: Kavanagh didn't play in the championships with a hamstring injury last year and so has fallen down the draft list. This is a steal for Essendon. Kavanagh is an exceptionally fast midfielder that will have an instant opportunity to represent at AFL level if he can impress in the NAB Cup. Kavanagh played in the NAB Championships the year previously as an underage 17 year old and was exceptional. He actually won the Matthew Lloyd clean hands test at the draft combine this year. At TAC Cup level last year he played in 3 games averaging 18 possessions, 5 marks and 4 tackles amassing him 82 Dream Team points a game. Cash Cow Potential: As with Heppel last year if he produces at NAB Cup, he will certainly have an opportunity to play early. | This is a 2012 outlook article.

NEWS: Many suggested Kavanagh was one of the most talented players in last years draft. However, he has had consecutive hamstring injuries and concerns fell on him that he had strength issues in his hamstring. So down he fell to Pick #19 in the draft where Essendon decided to take the risk on for his talent and upside. Kavanagh has had a solid pre-season recovering from his latest hamstring injury and is expected to play in the NAB Cup.
