NEWS: At 77kg, his size could potentially be an issue in a tough first round against St Kilda, however, Matthew Primus believes "There's not much of him, but he's a real competitive kid, puts his head over the ball and he's been really good in some of the real tough games we've played in the NAB Cup. The heat's in the kitchen, it certainly will be on Sunday and we're confident he'll be able to stand up under that."

NEWS: Wingard has the potential to be the pick of the draft. Greater Western Sydney has overlooked the playmaking midfielder because of his proneness to injury, not yet playing a full season at junior level. He has had issues with concussion which is of concern considering the seriousness the AFL now takes on this issue. On the other hand he is an enormous talent. He is courageous, creative and wins his own ball. He had the biggest vertical leap in the draft. He captained South Australia at the NAB AFL U18 Championships this year, and showed that outside of the things a top 5 pick should show, he has that little bit of X-Factor in him. That goal you thought impossible. That mark and spot kick that breaks open a game. In the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he averaged 24 possessions, 1 mark, 2 tackles and 1 goal leaving him with 81 Dream Team points a game playing in only 3 games over the 5 game carnival. Cash Cow Potential: He certainly looks AFL ready skill wise. His fitness, size and price are deterrents. | This is a 2012 outlook article.

NEWS: An extremely high draft pick, explosiveness and an array of skills were shown by those who braced the heat of Adelaide. He looked AFL ready in the NAB Cup match against Carlton. Wingard finished with 8 possessions, 4 marks, 1 tackle and a goal for 46 Dream Team points. He is an expensive Cash Cow though, so you would need to feel comfortable with 6-7 games and a 60s plus average. He is looking likely of a Round 1 debut.
| ||||
NEWS: He apparently had the crowd gasping with some of his marking and decision making he made in his first competitive hitout with the club. He will certainly play in the NAB Cup this weekend, however, Primus has concerns over his fitness base. He believes it's not at a level for AFL football. This should certainly cast some doubt over him being named in Round 1.
