Ablett absent: Gary Ablett jnr injured

Gary Ablett jnr injury

The highest scoring player in fantasy football has been withdrawn from Round 6 due to hamstring tightness.

AFL Rd 5 - Blues v Cats

Gary Ablett jnr has been omitted from Geelong’s side to take on Richmond, replaced in the squad of 25 by Nathan Djerrkura. I don’t need to tell you all how big that news is, especially in Supercoach where he’s the lock in captain for the majority of teams.

On the bright side, Mitchell Duncan is more likely to survive the cut after this development.

Let me know in the comments who your replacement captain will be, if you have him. Is it Jimmy Bartel, who won’t have Ablett or Joel Corey in support for the first time in yonks? Do you have Dane Swan as well, or is your #2 midfielder a less-than-reliable conveyance like Joel Selwood or Bryce Gibbs? Would you venture beyond the midfielders into the forwards, even after the Nick Riewoldt disaster of a couple of rounds ago? How about Corey Enright or Brendon Goddard? Or even Michael Barlow in the derby? 😮

Goddard will be stepping in for me. Hopefully he’ll have a good game tonight.

Even though its a pipe dream, I hope that Richmond get up to beat Geelong now!

That’s an excellent point, jesseboy. Ablett has played in R6 the last two years but got injured early in the game and missed the following week or two. Maybe Bomber’s saving us further pain?

    With Ablett on the bench…

Between Judd, Swan, OKeefe, Chapman or Selwood (with an Ablettless side)…..maybe Cooney, Barlow or Hodge….

    Judd for me, in form.

Now missing from one of my teams midfield:
    Ablett,
    Corey,
    Martin,
    Cotchin,
    Shuey,
    Banner

    2 starting midfielders! great!

Not sure about the hamstring thing… recent events including bomber having a crack at Ablett after the Carlton loss sugest to me he went to Cookie’s office and said

SORRY I AM OFF TO THE COAST

The round 6 curse has hit Ablett again!!

Now I have to face a doughnut in SuperCoach.

    Never pick Ablett.

It’s always fun until he misses a game!

I think this is going to be an interesting season at the top of the leaderboards in DT- the teams doing really well in the first month probably mostly had guys like Ablett, Boyd and Jonno Brown who all fired in the first few weeks and then have either missed or been poo. Not saying my own team will eanywhere near the top (I think missing Malceski and making such brilliant selections as Sam Wright, Andrew Moore and Relton Roberts, and missing Bastinac and Trengove, have stuffed me). But I reckon the winner won’t have been in the top 1000 during the first month.

    Judd
    Hodge
    Chapman
    Pavlich
    ROK
    Barlow

    I’m leaning towards Chapman/Judd

    FLOWER FLOWER FLOWER

After all the careful consideration before making my first double trade of the year to get Ablett in the side he goes and gets tight hamstrings

    ARRGGGHH!!

But will have to decide on a captain between Hodge/Bartel/ROK/Barlow

    April 30, 2010 at 4:48 pm

arg this sucks, probably going to lose out on 100 points with this news, have to choose between Nicky Dal and Chappy. Chappy should stand up in the absence of Corey and Ablett and could potentially play 100% in the mids and easily score 150 or he could suffer under a hard tag and score 80. With Picken out it may be a little bit easier for NDS to score well.

Damn it. Traded Hunt OUT for Hams and Salopek OUT for Ablett… I got Lewis Jetta for cover so i will have no 0’s this week. There better be no late withdrawals that effect me! I’m just hoping for a 65 from Jetta… NEVER EVER trade prior to 5pm EST, unless of course you have no access to a computer on Friday afternoon.

By the way, got James Bartel as my captain.

Am I the only one considering Hodge for captain?

  25. RobotNinja

    April 30, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Considering Montagna…or Bartel? Do you think Bartel is likely to be aided or hindered by the absence of Gablett and Corey?

    April 30, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Im with you spector on hodgey, has a much better average than any of the above options, and not too much up and down, just a good consistent score. And he will have his work cut out with the Bombers which should keep him on the move!

  27. grum88

    April 30, 2010 at 5:17 pm

Gonna pick chappy in DT simply because he has scored 100 plus in every game dont see that changeing against the tigers. No idea in SC.
This and Dustin Martin out has totally stuffed mty trade strategy, better think quick!!!

  28. wazzbatt

    April 30, 2010 at 5:30 pm

I already have Boyd, Mitchell, Shuey and Martin out. Now Ablett. I was gonna trade Martin for Stanton this week anyway but I’ll still have 0 this week. Stanton for Captain!

    April 30, 2010 at 6:28 pm

I’ve always had chappy captain this year. No Ablett coz i think he’s too expensive. Been very happy so far.

    April 30, 2010 at 8:42 pm

In Order, Judd, Swan, Hodge, Del Santo, Sandilands, O’Keefe. Generally though, just take your most valuable player – If I’d done that all year (GAblett) I’d be laughing.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:37 pm

Word is GAJ’s hammys tightened up when being chased by Bomber out of Cooky’s office this morning after announcing he’s signed on the dotted line.

Going with Juddy. Hoping for a big one. Going to cop one donut with Ablett, Martin and Mitchell in my side. Can handle that. Come on Johnno Brown!

I am going for Hodgey as Captain. Has probably been one of the most consistant this year!

Do you know whether Ablett is playing next week or do you know when he is coming back?
    Thanks =]

Bomber Thompson has said that Ablett will return this week.

  42. koggy

    May 3, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Does anybody think ablett might not be injured at all??

Bomber comes out and says ablett didnt pull his weight and suddenly ablett says “do it without me then”

this could be the first rumblings of “screw you guys, im going to the goldcoast”

  43. Turbo

    May 4, 2010 at 12:23 pm

Bomber has said today that Ablett is no certainty to play this week. He also had to front the players to explain why he was out late after the Logies.

The one week I’m playing someone without Ablett!

    Good old Collingwood forever,
We know how to play the game.

Side by side we stick together,
    To uphold The Magpies name.

    Hear the barrackers a shouting,
    As all barrackers should,

    Oh, the premiership’s a cakewalk
    For the good old Collingwood
