Devil strikes early: Liam Anthony out for six weeks

Liam Anthony stress fracture

You knew it was coming. Yes, Dean Laidley has cut open the hearts of fantasy coaches yet again.

I am sure that I don’t need to go through the history yet again of Dean Laidley sabotaging fantasy teams with his implacably evil mind games surrounding the first couple of rounds of the season. This year it’s Liam Anthony being revealed AFTER FANTASY LOCKOUT as having a stress fracture of the foot that will sideline him for six weeks which happened BEFORE FANTASY LOCKOUT at Thursday training. This is another disaster for all of us who bought Anthony, some of us to start him, and will leave countless teams facing zeroes and lost opportunity for cash cow rewards.

I can hear the Junkyard Devil cackling from here. Enjoy it while you can Dean, because you’re going to a dark, evil place when you retire. And no, I don’t mean the Mornington Peninsula.

dan, are you saying you don’t know why any of us would take a risk? well bruz we don’t want a team full of prestis, lewis roberts-thompsons and lloyds do we? the whole game is a combination of research and risk.

I had heard that this year, the money values change after 2 Rds, then back to the last 3 rds played etc…..

    Am i incorrect ?

    Tks.

Oh God! After all my work and this happens. I have Anthony, Beams, Broughton, Raines, Henderson. Sad days and I was looking forward to this season too…..

Newbie here – but if you’ve got a rookie on your bench – do their values increase (e.g Robinson on bench for R1) even though they haven’t been one of your starters or emergencies?

What I’m getting at is that wouldn’t it be better to trade Anthony now for another rookie who will start (e.g Hill), so that you don’t miss out on the price rise of the rookies that are getting games?

Simonoz – the player must have 3 games average before value starts changing

Andy – That’s a decision you have to make. How much do you value your trades? how long can you afford a player not playing any games to sit on your bench? If you do trade, you will want to make sure the rookie you trade in is going to increase in value, or the trade could be wasted.
    Part of playing DT!

Raines, Beams, Broughton, Hodge (susp?), Anthony.
3 months of research and high anxiety and for what? 2 games played and the team is shot!!
May hell open up and with all its force strike down furious furious vengeance upon Beelzebub aka Dean Laidley!!

Ah man, I do feel for all you dudes who bought him. That sucks immensely. I was a bee’s pecker from taking him and when I saw him named I ALMOST went with him (but couldn’t have even if I wanted to).

At this point I am SO glad that I listened to my gut and only took one Kangas rook (Zeibell because he could be a Fwd). The chopping and changing of good-performing Kangas rooks in 2008 scared me right off.

Hey Brad – what’s wrong with Beams? Are you just saying that he wasn’t picked or is there some injury cloud? I thought he was A-OK and just wasn’t a Round 1 starter (which is fine by me because I have Rich as emergency).

How bad can The Dog be? Could he pull Ziebell late on Sunday? Hope Mitch Brown (em) definately plays tonight.
Given that Rnd 2 may produce a rookie smokee maybe a trade sacrifice for Anthony is a worthwile punt. Can’t believe I was Robinson Bail, Robinson Dangerfield, Robinson Meyer, but settled on Robinson Anthony during the maelstrom. Also changed Broughton to Suckling then to Schoenmaker. Also downgraded Tuck to Otten to get Hodge. Last minute decisions not looking good.

i picked scott thompson and lenny hayes, not reading anywhere that they had picked up injuries, as well as having raines and now anthony. already 4 injuries, 3 of them starters. i needed anthony to cover one of lenny or thompson for this week, cause couldn’t get on to swap davenport for someone who was playing. bloody dreamteam servers i tell you what, that’s 2 years in a row now i’ve needed to make a few changes and haven’t been able to

Six weeks is a long time to be sitting on your bench without helping you paying the bills. I’ve got beams there too so I’m gonna see if beams gets a game r2 or r3 before making the call on Anthony. If beams starts playing i’ll probably feel better about being patient with Anthony…

def gonna trade out anthony, just will be interesting to see which rookies in the mids keep their spots and/or score well.

i already have rich and robinson so will be keeping a keen on eye next round.

No need to make a decision this week on Anthony. Might as well wait to see who is the best cash cow after teams are named in round 3

How many rounds are played before players values change??

  19. rupert

    March 30, 2009 at 1:01 pm

My supercoach financial advisor told me that you should only trade out Anthony if there is another one of your midfielders not playing… if you can still name an emergency you should wrap him up in cotton wool and have him your 8th midfielder for 6 weeks

  20. Simon

    March 30, 2009 at 1:14 pm

Rupert – if Liam is out 6 weeks, then maybe 2 more in reserves…thats 8 weeks in cotton wool – when over the same period, you could run TWO diff rook cash cows….and use Anthony as a downgrade around Rd 8,9….

  21. Rupert

    March 30, 2009 at 2:08 pm

Flower off rupert, I’m the only Rupert in this biach. Flowering name theif.

  22. rupert

    March 30, 2009 at 5:02 pm

Hey calm down Rupert, my name is rupert, spelt with a small r and yours is Rupert is a big R… so there is no problem here, right?
Please take note of this Simon, as you wrote a response to Rupert, but i think it was meant for me, in which case should be rupert, understand??

    P.S Thief Rupert, not theif.
