Dustin time: 2010 Round 1 projections v3 (1/4)

R1 projections v3 (1/4)

Richmond is going to blood multiple new faces like Dustin Martin in round 1, as will many AFL clubs.

Richmond Intra-Club Match

I will try to rip through these this afternoon with not many comments, four at a time as usual.

Richmond
FB: Chris Newman, Kelvin Moore, Will Thursfield
HB: Shane Edwards, Luke McGuane, Daniel Connors
C: Richard Tambling, Trent Cotchin, Daniel Jackson
HF: Robin Nahas, Jack Riewoldt, Dustin Martin
FF: Ben Nason, Graham Polak, Mitch Morton
Fol: Troy Simmonds, Brett Deledio, Shane Tuck
Int: Tyrone Vickery, Troy Taylor, Alex Rance, Mitch Farmer
In: Nason, Taylor, Rance
Out: Ben Cousins, Dean Polo, Matt White
Iffy: Thursfield, Farmer, Tuck, Polo
Waiting: Nathan Foley, Angus Graham, Tom Hislop
Injured: David Astbury, Benjamin Griffiths, Cousins

Coach Damien Hardwick has told the press he will play three debutantes, so for me it’s Martin, Nason and Taylor. Cases could be made for Relton Roberts and Jeromey Webberley but they will probably have to wait. Rance comes in to mark Waite.

Carlton
FB: Bret Thornton, Michael Jamison, Aaron Joseph
HB: Jordan Russell, Paul Bower, Heath Scotland
C: Kade Simpson, Brock McLean, Andrew Carrazzo
HF: Andrew Walker, Jarrad Waite, Chris Yarran
FF: Setanta O’hAilpin, Lachie Henderson, Eddie Betts
Fol: Matthew Kreuzer, Bryce Gibbs, Richard Hadley
Int: Robert Warnock, Marc Murphy, Ryan Houlihan, Mitch Robinson
In:
Out:
Iffy: Houlihan, Hadley, Joseph, Warnock
Waiting: Shaun Hampson, Rohan Kerr, Shaun Grigg, Kane Lucas
Injured: Brad Fisher
Suspended: Chris Judd

If the Blues can add Judd back into this 22 and keep it together for the season, they’re going to do alright.

Geelong
FB: Darren Milburn, Matthew Scarlett, Andrew Mackie
HB: Corey Enright, Harry Taylor, Josh Hunt
C: James Kelly, Jimmy Bartel, Cameron Ling
HF: Shannon Byrnes, Cameron Mooney, Steve Johnson
FF: Paul Chapman, Tom Hawkins, James Podsiadly
Fol: Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett jnr
Int: Mark Blake, Mitchell Duncan, David Wojcinski, Tom Lonergan
In: Duncan
Out: Travis Varcoe
Iffy: Lonergan, Duncan, Wocjinski, Podsiadly
Waiting: Nathan Djerrkura, Steven Motlop, Tom Gillies, Jeremy Laidler
Injured: Mitch W. Brown, Max Rooke, Joel Corey, Ryan Gamble, Marcus Drum, Simon Hogan, T. Varcoe
Suspended: Mathew Stokes (club)

Gamble played in the VFL last weekend but reaggravated his ankle problem, which cements Podsiadly’s spot in the 22 for the moment, notwithstanding rumours of the return of Brown off the LTI list as early as round 3. Duncan, meanwhile, is looking better and better with each successive bit of injury news.

Essendon
FB: Henry Slattery, Tayte Pears, Dustin Fletcher
HB: Andrew Welsh, Cale Hooker, Courtenay Dempsey
C: Ricky Dyson, Brent Stanton, Brent Prismall
HF: Alwyn Davey, Scott Gumbleton, Kyle Reimers
FF: Mark Williams, David Hille, Angus Monfries
Fol: Patrick Ryder, Jobe Watson, Jason Winderlich
Int: Jason Laycock, Heath Hocking, Ben Howlett, Kyle Hardingham
In: Howlett, Hardingham
Out: Bachar Houli, Sam Lonergan
Iffy: Dyson, Hocking, Howlett, Hardingham
Waiting: David Zaharakis, Jay Neagle, Jarrod Atkinson, Darcy Daniher
Injured: Leroy Jetta, David Myers
Suspended: Nathan Lovett-Murray, Mark McVeigh, Michael Hurley (club)

I had a long think about dropping Dyson – Lord knows, Essendon fans think about it all the time – but I think he’ll survive the cut ahead of Zaharakis, even though he does resemble a potato at times. I have always liked the look of Houli on-field but it seems that he’s not the coaches’ favourite boy off-field due to his work ethic, whereas Howlett is getting rave reviews from training. Lonergan missed the last NAB game with a niggling something-or-other, so I’ve taken the opportunity to insert Hardingham, though admittedly this is more about hopefulness and boosting the numbers of Round 1 debuts in my projections.

Looks good robbo, are you certain about Waite?
I squeezed Dangerfield into mine, could be a minor cash cow this season (obviously depending on various factors).

m0nty, you have no idea if you think Alex Rance and Troy Taylor will be playing in round 1.

Danog, the coach has locked in three debutantes for R1. Assuming Martin and Nason are there, who is your third?

word out of the tiger den is that relton roberts could be something special…..
He’s very raw, but dont be overly surprised if he gets a shot rd 1…

Could Gourdis be a chance for a spot down back in the Tiger’s line up?

Pretty sure Relton Roberts is that 3rd rookie to debut…must say though i think the essendon team is very close i think, but unless Ryder relieves the 3 key-defenders for a spell i think Daniher will play instead of Laycock. Daniher will make way for NLM Round 2 though. Ryder & Hille will play forward when not rucking too. Also i think Zaharkis will probably play too, not sure who for though, maybe Howlett, Hardingham, Hocking or Riemers, but good work

    Hey Monty.
Who do you reckon will make way for Juddy in round 4?
I know its hard to be sure with form and injuries (if any) being factors.

i take it you have hardingham in the bombers 22 since hes named as an in, but you only have 21players named in the side…

m0nty Joel Corey will play round 1, Thompson has already basically confirmed he’s fit – as is Drum who played the VFL game last week (though he’s virtually no chance to be picked in the seniors yet).

Monty, Farmer would be a Tiger “debutante” which would make 3.

Rance was played forward against Collingwood and was terrible, so if he gets in I’d be shocked. As for Taylor, Relton has outplayed him the in the last 2 NAB Challenge games (and not just DT wise), although Dustin Fletcher was marking Taylor in the last NAB Challenge.

Essendon played a full side against Richmond, which didn’t include Laycock and I’d be stunned if we played all 3 rucks. Hille hasn’t played permanent FF in any game he’s always alternated ruck and forward. Neagle will start there I’d imagine and then it’d be up to Daniher et al to remove him. Also I think Zakka will play.

Bomber Thompson flagged 1 debutante, and one only. I assume he’s saying that on the basis Joel Corey plays… in: Corey out: Duncan and you’re there until the inevitable late change puts it back the way you have it, at least for round 1.

Roberts over Taylor as Richmond’s third.

Mail for Kane Lucas over Houlihan for Carlton, but he’d be the designated placeholder for the Juddster if so.

Essendon have confirmed they’re playing Howlett.

i rekon if asbury can get his body right he could kick 30 goals this year

Podsiadly is the one debutante Arky. Not only is Corey likely to play, but Hogan is also fit (you’re a bit slow on those injuries m0nty – 3 guys listed as injured are all now fit), which means he’s more likely to play ahead of Duncan.

According to Damien Hardwick there’ll be “4 debutants” but I’m not sure if he’s including Mitch Farmer as a debutant (for the Tigers).

Cousins will definitely play; Relton Roberts is probable.
He also hinted that Hislop and Adam Thomson are in. So about 4 changes to Monty’s side perhaps?

  23. Dunlop

    March 24, 2010 at 3:51 pm

    @ Scratchy.

The 4 debutantes are: Martin, Farmer, Nason & Roberts.

If Richmond were following the Essendon example and playing their likely Rd 1 side (apart from injured players) 2 extras.

I expect the changes from Monty’s side will look something like…

    In: Cousins, Roberts, Thomson, Hislop
    Out: Rance, Taylor, Tuck, Polak

Good effort on the Carlton team Monty. Only one off – Anderson replacing Hadley.

    Carlton
B: Bret Thornton, Michael Jamison, Aaron Joseph
HB: Paul Bower, Jarrad Waite, Jordan Russell
C: Ryan Houlihan, Marc Murphy, Heath Scotland
HF: Andrew Carrazzo, Lachie Henderson, Kade Simpson
F: Setanta O’hAilpin, Matthew Kreuzer, Eddie Betts
Foll: Robert Warnock, Bryce Gibbs, Brock McLean
