$5 membership drive

Due to excessive demand for FanFooty's live fantasy scoring service in the past two weeks - which caused traffic problems that were so bad that we couldn't even get to the site ourselves to run it properly - we are now offering $5 FanFooty memberships for access to live score pages for this year.

We apologise to those of you who think this is a money-grubbing scheme, but I assure you it is not what we wanted. The site has genuinely been unreachable for us for the last couple of weekends, and it has got to the stage where something has to be done to stem the flood of new traffic.

To clarify: you can still join up and view all pages and use all of our features without paying a cent if you don't want to. However, when AFL games are on, as of this weekend (Round 15, 2006) if you don't have a membership then you won't be able to see your players or teams on the match scores, live or head-to-head pages. Note that non-members can continue to enter and see their external team pages, it's just that they can't see live scores any more. Of course, when games are not on, all content is open for browsing.

There is a new link on the front page for those of you who are logged in. You will see a Buy 2006 membership to see live scores link which will take you through to the payment process. Payment at this stage is done by credit card through Paymate, or if you are registered with Paymate you can use a bank account. If you want to brave the wilds of Australia Post then you can try sending $5 in an envelope to:

Fansports Committee
PO Box 37
Belmont VIC 3216

IMPORTANT: You must specify your email address either on or inside the envelope so that we know whose account the money is for. If you're feeling particularly brave you could send a multiple of $5 and list multiple emails to activate several memberships at once.

The figure of $5 was devised after asking a number of existing members, as well as putting a poll up on the discussion forum BigFooty. Our intention is to offer the same service next year for $10 for a full season, and $5 for a half-season.

We hope that this does not annoy people who think the service is not worth $5, but we have been forced into this move through a lack of resources. We hope that those who can't or won't get a membership will continue to enjoy FanFooty.

- Paul Montgomery and Tony Tran, Fansports Committee.       FanFooty
