Blog log from R17 of 2019: Sydney vs Carlton

Murphy sends the footy deep into Carlton’s attacking zone where Casboult clunks a big mark over the top of the pack. From 25 on a slight angle, he nails the first major of the day. (Q1 5:13)
Setterfield catches Zak Jones HTB just inside the boundary line and within range. He centres it too close to the goal line, thumped over for a minor score. (Q1 6:57)
Silvagni is able to crumb beneath the contest and a get a right-foot snap away from 35 but it’s offline. (Q1 9:13)
Reid has a relatively easy set-shot opportunity at the other end. However, from 30m, he sprays it to the right, through for a minor score only. (Q1 10:09)
Jack trots down the wing before sending it inside 50 to the Goddard-McCartin one-on-one. The Swan outpositions his opponent to take the mark but his shot is wayward. (Q1 11:45)
Blakey collects in space behind the wing. His first bounce is shonky but he recovers, then puts on the afterburners, takes another bounce, and misses from the 50 arc. (Q1 14:15)
High contact awards Cripps a shot from the pocket. He elects for the snap which cannons into the woodwork. (Q1 14:46)
McKay’s kick from 55 gets caught in the breeze and ends up sailing through for a behind. (Q1 15:46)
Jones slips out of a weak Lang tackle before chipping a 10-metre pass to Parker. Luke quickly turns, snaps, and goals from 25m for the Swans’ first major of the day. (Q1 19:31)
A Cunningham fumble allows Silvagni to collect and handball outside to Walsh who nails the quick goal from 25. (Q1 22:15)
O’Riordan dishes by hand to Dawson who takes a hasty couple of steps before launching a top-shelf goal from 55m. (Q1 24:30)
After clunking a nice mark, the goalpost is the only thing stopping Nick Blakey from converting his 40m set-shot. (Q1 27:16)
Setterfield catches Rowbottom HTB on the flank and sends it inside 50 where McKay takes a strong contested mark. His shot, however, is a poor one. (Qtr Time)
Fisher snaps a hurried left-foot shot from the pocket out of the stoppage to slot the first major of the second term. (Q2 8:20)
Blakey collects with his back toward goal at half forward, the turns and sidesteps before chipping in the path of Hayward. Will’s shot hits the post. (Q2 10:32)
McKay brings the ball to ground inside the goalsquare. Both he and Rampe go to ground, allowing Gibbons to run in and kick the easiest of soccer-style goals. (Q2 14:00)
Matt Kennedy dinks a nice pass to the leading McKay. His shot falls short but Kreuzer is able to cleanly collect on the goal line and handball to Lang who snaps a hasty goal. (Q2 17:48)
The Swans transition coast to coast through Rampe, Aliir, and Hayward. Jack pops up in space in the goal square and boots it into the top rows. (Q2 22:04)
Under immediate pressure, McCartin gets a kick away from smack on the boundary line. It’s almost a remarkable goal… but again hits the post. (Q2 25:15)
Cripps roves the forward-50 ruck contest but can’t connect properly with the left-foot snap. His kick sails high before bouncing through for a behind. (Q2 26:18)
Heeney has a chance to swing around and unleash a snap on his right boot after roving the stoppage, however, it’s narrowly to the near side. (Q2 28:01)
Following a score review, Curnow is given a behind for an under-pressure half-shot that inconclusively came off his knee. (Q2 30:27)
Jones sends a low, scrubby kick inside 50 which is cleanly collected by Reid. He dishes off the handball to Rowbottom who snaps truly from 40 for the first goal of the second half. (Q3 1:47)
McKay marks at full stretch above Rampe, but from 45m, hooks it to the right. (Q3 3:41)
A poor Sydney rebound attempt results in a Setterfield flying shot from the boundary which is well wide. (Q3 5:30)
Aliir’s hurried clearing kick is skyward and Casboult is the best to react. Levi’s 35m shot hits the post. (Q3 7:45)
Hayward has a golden opportunity from the pocket but rushes the chance and absolutely sprays it OOTF as a result. (Q3 11:14)
A holding free is picked out at the stoppage against Simpson which will gift Papley a shot on goal. From 45 on a slight angle, he has no trouble. (Q3 15:31)
Reid and Gibbons reach down for the footy near the boundary with Reid penalised for high contact. Gibbons runs inboard, snaps on his right and misses. (Q3 22:36)
Blakey drops the mark which brings pressure, forcing him to release to Heeney. Isaac’s execution is equally poor, spraying the shot which eventually bounces in for a behind. (Q3 23:28)
The entry kick from Aliir is clunked in the pocket by Blakey. On the wrong side for a left-footer and with a bit of a breeze, he misses to the near side. (Q3 24:29)
Curnow and McKay battle through tough Sydney pressure. It spills out to Murphy who hacks a hasty kick toward goal from the hot spot which is online! (Q3 28:48)
Melican throws Casboult out of the marking contest which will give the big fella an eye at the sticks. His kick sways in and out before sneaking through for a quality goal. (Q4 1:56)
Silvagni makes it two in a row for the Blues to kickstart the fourth with an accurate right-foot snap from the pocket after finding himself free out the back of the congestion. (Q4 5:18)
A clean Florent spots up Heeney in the pocket who quickly links with Papley at a much better angle. Tom plays on but wastes his opportunity. (Q4 6:59)
Gibbons’ kick drops short into the lap of Silvagni who’ll line up from outside 50. His attempt doesn’t make the distance, off hands for a minor score. (Q4 9:01)
Following a coast-to-coast play, Papley lines up to shoot but passes at the last second to Heeney. Isaac marks at 25 and slots the goal. (Q4 10:02)
Papley gets a hurried shot away from close to the boundary which is never online. (Q4 14:30)
Silvagni intercepts a very poor Lloyd switch kick, but can’t convert his 45m running shot. (Q4 15:24)
Zak Jones dashes through the centre square before spotting Reid advantaged in his one-on-one. Sam goes back and nails the set shot. (Q4 20:31)
Dawson’s defensive kick is sloppy, allowing the Blues to capitalise. Lang and Dow combine before McKay runs into the open goal. (Q4 22:02)
McCartin passes wide to Lloyd who kicks the goal from 50 with a minute to go. (Q4 29:48)
The Swans get the centre clearance but give away the free kick once inside their attacking 50. That’ll do it… Well done Blues! (Q4 30:47)
