Matthew Owies is a true half forward flanker, the sort of player who excels in a good team and can look useless in a bad one. Unfortunately he was playing in one of the worst teams of the century last year, with only seven goals from 16 appearances including two red vests - a far cry from 33 goals from 23 games the year before at Carlton. One might think that things are only looking up from here for the wooden spooners, and Owies would have learned a lot from one of the finest exponents of his craft in Jamie Cripps. His ceiling is still not fantasy-relevant in any case, nevertheless.
