Tom McCartin is one of the premier back-shoulder defenders in the competition, perhaps under-rated compared to his peers but unquestionably the best defender at Sydney which is in the top six for points against. While his physical capabilities are best-suited to centre half forward, he is also first choice for Dean Cox when the best opposition forward starts out of the goalsquare.
