Wade Derksen has played full back during the absence of Jacob Weitering, and is unquestionably way behind him on the depth chart. His previous career at GWS showed he had the versatility to play other positions befitting his tall stature, having led the goalkicking for their reserves in 2023. Carlton already have a couple of swingmen up forward as it is, so if he is to break back into the senior side once Weitering returns he will probably have to wait for another injury. For now, his main role is to halve as many contests as he can manage against better players.
