Elijah Hewett was one of a number of younger West Coast players tried on the inside last year as the Eagles headed for yet another wooden spoon. His story was one of the better ones, as his audition turned out reasonably well to fill the inside-out midfielder role that every good team needs in the modern game. Injury has intervened at times since then, but the Eagles are on the uptick this year and he has a chance to join the rising tide if he can get some match form together in a string of games. He has the talent, he just needs the fitness and a bit of luck.
