Jack Bowes has been a spare parts man in his time since being traded from Gold Coast, capable of playing inside or outside, in the centre, wings or flanks where need be. Every team needs one of those in the 23 to keep flexibility, but perhaps it is time that Bowes settled into one position and concentrated on specialisation. With Brad Close's contributions eroding by the year, perhaps it is that half forward line where he can use his best skill of disposal by foot. Chris Scott would probably disagree as coaches value the structural role that utilities play, but his potential is limited.
