Andrew McPherson plays half back for Adelaide, which at the start of the season would have made you wonder how he was ever going to force his way into a best 22 with champions in each small defender position. The way the season has worked out for the club, however, has led to a fair bit of experimentation which will only continue, and part of that has been trialling McPherson in his usual defensive role with some success, while Brodie Smith and Rory Laird are moved up the ground to bolster a midfield getting smashed regularly. He is another fantasy asset in the making.
