  • 2020 DT PRE-SEASON OUTLOOK (posted 26 Jan 2020)
    Scully chases X-factor
Following a severe leg break in the first round of the 2018 season, winger Tom Scully produced almost a full slate of senior appearances in his first at the Hawks. While his fitness has never been in question, the former Demon and Giant produced his second lowest disposal output across his career and made the least number of tackles in a role more concentrating on defensive running than getting ball in hand.
Expectations on Scully will be higher two seasons on from injury. A tireless runner throughout his time at the Giants, coach Alastair Clarkson will be hopeful he can produce likewise this time round. A roughly average fantasy scorer during his peak seasons, there is little to tempt coaches even following likely physical improvement, as Clarko is highly unlikely to tell him to chase the footy instead of covering space.

If I were a Melbourne supporter I'd feel lucky they took Scully instead of Trengove. Tbh it's very likely Scully's gonna just flame out and never amount to anything with this knee injury of his. Trengove is probably a player more suited to building a team around - lolrocket - 149 months ago
pfft jack watts is a crap player from a crap club. and being an eagles supporter, yes naitanui will be an absolute gun - kwidjaja23 - 149 months ago
kwidjaja23 - Have a cry. On Jack Watts shoulder LOL GO NAITANUI! - S_Coach99 - 149 months ago
Melbourne tanked to get him in the first place. They deserve to lose him. - Death - 149 months ago
@Mr Ploppy-what club do you go for? assuming you don't go for the demons, how would you feel if your no 1 pick went to another club? would you brag on about the expansion of the game when your club is developing and losing a bunch of games, and lose a good player? besides that, all the best to tom at his new club - kwidjaja23 - 149 months ago
Rah Rah RAH!! The amount of Melbourne supporters in the media and on the radio crying foul is amazing. All the clubs signed up to this. Accept it. Move on. Last year when Ablett/Bock/Harbrow etc left their clubs where was the chorus of support from unaffected clubs?. Seems only fair everyone takes some medicine here. - AndyJ - 149 months ago
Sure, if you're a melb fan, I can understand you'd be angry. But playing football is his job. If you were good at your job and your boss could see your potential but you quit to join another firm/workplace offering better money most people would take it and your boss would be disappointed. This where society in 2011 is, not just football. - W.Mantooth - 149 months ago
@Mr Ploppy, im lamenting his communication with team-mates, not his decision. I don't think its fair of Scully to just to run away and sign up for the $ without telling his team mates properly - pies4spoon - 149 months ago
How can you blame the bloke? Where was Melbourne's "loyalty" when they gave McDonald the alps last year? Where was the "Good of the Game" when they stole Number 1 pick Jeff White from Freo? And pies4spoon and kidhjaja23, if you ever take a new job because it's better in every way you'll have to take a good hard look at yourselves. Dinosaurs the both of you. - Mr Ploppy - 149 months ago
This bloke didn't even have the guts to sit down face to face with big Jim Stynes, the captain Moloney or any of his teammates to tell them he was leaving, just powered off and 'phoned' them. Pathetic. - pies4spoon - 149 months ago
If I was a melbourne fan, I would be absolutely furious. went with dollar signs in his eyes, and abandoned the club that expected you to become the next captain. melbourne should be compensated with the no.1 pick gws has - kwidjaja23 - 149 months ago
ended last season averaging around 95 for his last 5 games, drops another 100 in his first game back.this kid is the real deal - fortynine - 153 months ago
