Patrick Ryder and his management are believed to believed looking into a clause in his contract that good see him walk out on the Bombers as an Delisted Free Agent at the end of the year.

Ryder signed a 4 year deal at the start of the 2012 season and is currently contracted to Essendon until the end of 2016 but could leave the club due to a breach of his duty of care during the supplements scandal of 2011 and 2012.

With a number of clubs looking for a player of Ryder's capabilities he is expected field plenty of big offers.

If this was to happen the Bombers would not receive any compensation due a new rule which was pushed by the AFLPA which was introduced due to the Bombers scandal.

Also saw talk that the Ryder rumours are just keeping the attention away from Carlisle's future at the Bombers
No idea on his contract status though

With Ryder looking like bailing out of the Bombers is this the start of players who will sue the club ?

Essendon became aware it had a genuine problem with Paddy Ryder some weeks ago, but Ryder's problem with the club began, in truth, in the first half of last year.

That was when the star ruckman and his pregnant fiancee Jessica McDonald became increasingly alarmed at the health risks posed by the 2011-2012 Bombers' drugs program. Ryder's interview with officials from the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Agency and the AFL did nothing to alleviate the couple's fears.

Small grievances between the Ryder family and the club followed, the Essendon players received show-cause letters from ASADA and the Bombers agreed its players and their families would be subject to annual health checks as a result of the program that has brought shame upon the club.

Should Ryder walk, both his management and his preferred club, the Brisbane Lions, seem prepared to deal with the Bombers through a compromise trade that would see the Lions sacrifice a second-round pick - around No. 20 - to gain the services of the talented player who is worth significantly more on the open market.
