most clubs would be happy to offer a Buddy type deal like around 900k a year for about 8 years

I'm pretty sure 90% of clubs wouldn't even entertain the thought of an 8 year deal

why not? he's still young makes much more sense then the Buddy deal

Except Sydney #speshspesh
Haha.
There's actually been some talk of Fyfe going to Sydney  :o
I know it's very unlikely to happen, but would be pretty funny as it would piss off heaps of people.
If Cotch was offered a "Buddy" deal, then he'd certainly have to consider it.

Will be signed in a long term contract before it even gets to that. Watch this space

Hawthorn's pitch to Trent Cotchin

Dear Trent,

The Hawthorn Football Club is interested in acquiring your services through free agency.

We've heard that you are, somewhat bizarrely, loyal to your current club, but we believe we can offer you a very appealing offer.

Our offer is based around the following:
- Lots of money
- A chance of winning a Premiership in your lifetime
- General competency
- Coaching
- Not Richmond

We have a heap of money left over cause that Buddy guy left for Sydney to hang out with his girlfriend.

Therefore, we are keen to give you a fair bit of this money, which you can then exchange for a range of goods and services.

Do you like winning Premierships? It's probably something you've never even considered being at Richmond, but with us it could actually happen.

Winning a Premiership is amazing. It's feels like when you throw a piece of paper across the room and land it straight in the bin, times a million.

We are also competent at running a football club. We have money, facilities and people who know what they're doing. We believe you would really come to appreciate this once you experience it.

Our coaching staff is second to none. Even when our senior coach gets sick, the work experience kid can step in and win.

Even he knows how to make tactical adjustments during a game to ensure victory, something you're probably not used to at Richmond.

Lastly, we are not Richmond.

We think this is a pretty convincing offer. The only downside is you will have to wear a lot of brown and there's a good chance you'll meet Jeff Kennett.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards

Chris Fagan - General Manager - Football Operations

P.s we should also mention that by the time you get here in 2016, Hodge, Burgoyne, Mitchell, Lake, Sewell, Hale, Gibson and probably some other premiership stars will be retired or on the way out and we will have stopped winning premierships and be a middle of the table club... All though that's still probably a better prospect than playing for Richmond :P

AaronKirk

The salary cap next year for each club increases from $9.63m to $9.92m next year so Hawthorn have the cash left over from not keeping Buddy (which I believe is a lot) plus another nearly $300k on top of that.

Hawthorn could easily ATM afford to offer Cotchin, or a Fyfe/Dangerfield about $1m a season for a long period and fit the deal into the salary cap.

They will definitely be aggressive in getting a big fish in the midfield and don't be surprised if they get one.

Noz

Yes he should definitely leave.

Though a lot of good players from Hawthorn will retire in the next couple of years they have ready made replacements for nearly everyone of them.

Plus imagine getting the ball running down the pitch looking up and not having Vickery and Hampson as forward options. That should put a huge smile on his face.
