The umps were flowered the whole game and it was flowered all round for both teams and has been flowered all season in every single game.

LF sorry but all that does is prove what they said last season that West coast are the game's worst duckers they duck for everything half the team should be suspended for it
if jetta can get suspended for diving then half of the eagles for ducking should go imo

after the game when they showed the replay the only one that was high was the first tackle not the 2nd one like the umpire called

they showed a slow-mo replay so technically the ump payed it for the 2nd tackle which was never high the first one was when he leant into it when he saw he was going to be tackled

it isn't just west coast either imo, and whoever mentioned thomas earlier, he was cautioned by the afl and his coach for playing for frees.
so he is FAR from a good example to use of an honerable player.

its not just the ducking to win high tackle free kicks either.

I HATE EVERY TEAM when the players put their arms out and turn to the umpire asking for a free kick

mostly when the ball is kicked out of bounds.  it just LOOKS BAD - seeing players asking for or playing for free kicks.

i know its part of the game but it is pathetic and needs to be stomped out.

The controversial free kick aside, because no matter how you look at it there won't be a conclusion, North should never have let NicNat have a free run at that contest. Simple as that.

didnt have an issue with the game. There were some poor calls, both ways,  but when the game was in the balance it was umpired pretty well.


and yeah CW, I completely agree. I hate the entire phrase 'winning' a free kick. That's not the purpose of free kicks.

You know what needs to stop is these bullshower frees they are paying as push in the back.
I don't know about anyone else but the players backs are not on the side of their body but the umps payed several frees for this tonight it's ridiculous and they need to clarify the stupid rule properly.

I don't want to make any enemies here but this is how I saw it.
West Coast played better than North for three quarters and, on that basis, should have won.
West Coast kicked horribly in front of goal for the whole game and, on that basis, should not have won.
The last two frees were both "technically" frees and, although he played for it, I agree with the Shuey one being paid. However, I do NOT think they should ever have paid that free to Selwood. Whether or not it was a free is up for debate but there were multiple similar incidents in the last 10 minutes where an arm was around the head/neck for a brief moment before a solid tackle made. That free kick was, unfortunately, decisive. HOWEVER, if a free kick had not been paid, there was still PLENTY of time for a ruck contest, kick into the forward 50, mark, goal. Nobody can say that wouldn't have happened because we can never know.

TL;DR
WCE played better but kicked horribly in front of goal. Last free is very debatable. Out of bounds instead of free still could have led to hitout, kick, mark, goal. Sad for North but West Coast deserved a win.

Has anyone ever thought that players actually earn freekicks? Or would you prefer it if umps ignored blatant frees and bought up ones that aren't there so that everyone has an even amount of frees.

Please, the free kicks debate has run its race. Can we not all just agree that...
