Matthew Johnson started his senior AFL career mostly playing wing, despite his junior development being mostly on the inside. This is perfectly normal as clubs tend to keep 18- and 19-year-olds out of the engine room if they still need to grow into their bodies. Johnson is one of the new breed of tall midfielders, and will be learning a lot by playing alongside one of the pioneers in that trend in Nat Fyfe.
