So I have been working on a rugby league version of FanFooty for a while now, and I've got it to the stage where I have compiled a database of previous years' statistics, like so:

There are so many stat categories in NRL fantasy it can get a bit confusing to tabulate it all in what I would ideally like to be a tight square of screen real estate, so I'm trying the concept of grouping them.

M   metres gained (kicks & runs)
T   tackles
A   attacking stats - try assists, line breaks, line break assists, tackle breaks, off loads, 40/20s
D   defensive stats - 1 on 1 tackles, try saves, kick defuses
E   errors - missed tackles, ineffective tackles, handling errors, penalties conceded, sin bins, send offs, missed goal attempts
S   scores - tries, penalty goals, field goals

I realise that's a bit out of the ordinary for the NRL watching public. What do you think, can leaguies get used to that or would they prefer something different? I am planning to revamp the liveblog page anyway so there will be options to expand or contract the stat columns, but I'm planning on that as the default... and defaults are powerful things in this context.

Also, I'm going to need a bit of help with FL liveblogging next year, and as you blokes/blokesses may know, I pay cash money. I think I'm going to pay $50 per game, so if you're in the habit of watching NRL games, why not get paid to do so? Skill in spelling, grammar and journalistic practice is a must, of course. I have had a lot of success with journalism students who use FF liveblogging as a bit of cash on the side to help them out, so ideally if there are people like that in NSW/Qld/wherever in the same boat who are league fans, that would be optimal.

Also, some ideas for specialised icons for FL would be good - grub, falcon etc. Most of the FF ones seem to be appropriate - the muppet one was influenced by league in the first place.

Also also also, I'm wondering what to do about forums for this new site. Do I create a FL section in the FF forums and link there so there's a ready-made user base, or create a whole new forum with a different URL so you'd have to log in twice if you use both? I'm leaning towards the former of those two options. How many of you are also league lovers? Hopefully a fair few of you.  ;D

I'm a new member that's just joined and saw your post via Twitter RT. We actually have a mutual friend in Phil Sim who mentioned to me earlier that you were expanding into the NRL with the live blogging system.

I'm definitely willing and eager to get involved and I am an avid NRL/RL fan. Happy to help where required.

Don't mind watching a bit of league, used to love it, but then found AFL  ;D

I like the idea m0nty, and would like to see more sports on here. Maybe as an idea though, we could get a summer sport, say cricket or soccer (yeah, technically a winter sport, but the aleague is played in the summer). Would give me fun in the off season  :D

Good luck with FL m0nty it looks great! I've always wanted to get into the NRL but living in SA is a bit of a downer for that (can't see any live games :(), so I always just get really stuck into the SOO when it comes around as at least we get those on TV.

If you ever get a cricket-equivalent on the way let me know as I will definitely be keen to apply for one of those live-blogging spots!

Just a question m0nty with the FTA games on Sunday being on delayed in the NRL states (not sure in other states) how do you propose to blog them. Was brought up on League but now secondary to AFL.

It is possible to blog off radio reports, I used to do it all the time in the early years. I'd hope to get bloggers in states where games are shown live - there are NRL fans in states other than NSW/Qld.

As living in SA, Rugby does not get much coverage but now on Gem it starts to get a bit more but will always watch AFL over NRL. I have played NRL Dream Team in the past but not really knowning any of the must have cash cows and never looking at live scores. I  hope this will get me into it a bit more so thanks m0nty will certainly give it a look

hey monty. great idea! I will be involved, not as big a league fan as AFl, but defn something i will log into.

When will the NRL forum be up and running?

Toying with the idea to see if anyone has interest in an XV type NRL fantasy league.

Also, will we be able to access this (and cricket) will our normal FF log ons?

yeah, the structure might need to be fiddled with to incorporate the multiple byes and stuff

SydneyRox

Monty, I cant log into the league side of things?

wont accept my FF logon as SydneyRox and also wont allow me to create a new account?

m0nty

Yes, it's a separate login system as it's on a different server.

People were creating accounts today so can you be more specific with your bug?

SydneyRox

The error was 404, page not available or has been moved.

Have managed to register today, so all good.

Just some errors I have noticed looking round, which you may already be aware of.

Clicking on 'Forum' or anything in the dropdown doesnt work. Takes you to a webpage not available message.

Tools - Player Search takes you to a list of AFL teams. Most everything else from the tools dropdown comes up with the Error 404. Page not found

m0nty

Fixed most of those menu errors, thanks.
