FOOTBALL FACTORY (Arizona) gives:
Ashby and Rookie Pick 7

For
Grannyboy (Springfield) gives:
J.Holmes and Rookie Pick 1

I need backs and I think if Hibberd goes asada style this guy will step in and plays his role of half back. I have a plethora of young rucks and this is my only rookie listed player from last year, he's about 7th in line for 1 position on the field in my team. I doubt if I will ever play him.

Happy with this one.

Ashby appears to be a whole lot closer to his sides best 22 than Holmes, especially when you consider pending ASADA movements at Bomberland. The upgrade is significant given the strength of the draft but its offset by the difference in each players fantasy prospects.

If anyone had any major issue with this trade, please speak now or forever hold your peace!

I'm not so sure on this trade an I am am surprised no-one else has flagged any potential issues.

Rookie Pick 1 is worth substantially more than rookie pick 7 in my opinion given the quality of players on offer this season due to the recycle draft and Ashby has hardly played at all/shown anything for the Bombers

Pick 1 could be a Rosa, Harry L, Wells, J Merrett, Fasolo type - I can probably see a clear Top 5-6 whereas it drops off a tad after that.

Holmes also has come on quite well in the Saints reserves (the best of the American recruits if reports are anything to go by) so while Ashby maybe slightly ahead of him football wise I'm not so sure about in terms of potential DT value (rucks are rarer).

I also don't think trading based on the fact Hibberd may get a six month ban can be factored in. Especially as this is a keeper/dynasty style league and what if Ashby goes back to the scrapheap when Hibberd returns?

You've got to factor in that there will be 3-4 Nat draft sliders and mature age recruits that are highly rated fantasy prospects. Examples off the top of my head; Templeton, Horsley, Laird, Shenton and Colquhoun. I'd say the number of viable rookie picks in the draft is closer to 10-12.

Holmes is promising, but the fact is he is currently behind Hickey and Longer in the ruck depo (and possibly Stanley as a pinch-hitter) plus, he's older than them all (being 25 next season). Maybe as a key forward one day, but it seems unlikely given he's played a majority of his VFL footy as a ruckman. The number of times he got less than 5 touches in the VFL/development league this season is also a concern :P

And although, I agree to an extent, you can't look at the ASADA bans too much, it'd be nonsensical to discount them completely. I agree though that they shouldn't be a decisive factor. Ashby (five years younger than Holmes) regularly had 20+ possessions down back for the Bombers VFL side, good prospect imo.

Overall, whilst I agree there is a difference between rookie 1 and rookie 7, there is enough quality at rookie 7 for Ashby/Holmes swap to compensate for the pick downgrade.

I've also heard that Holmes is the best developing American project player... Although, that's not saying much :P

Grannyboy

I'll keep pick 1 and Holmes, surely that should mean I get Watson too, he follows him everywhere ;D

I was waiting for TDog to write it up but meh, we have come up with this trade:

El Paso gives: Tom Boyd

Isotopes give: Mark Hutchings.

TDog to confirm.

Oh yeah the reasons. I'm looking to the future in my forward line and picked up Prestia and Brad Hill in the recycled draft, so I can do without Hutchings. Also have 3 starting Weagles in the mids so if they go bad I go bad, trying to spread it around a bit.

T Dog confirms. Both big trades but a young gun mid suits El Paso's older mix balance more than a fwd.

Football Factory

Im happy to confirm these trades Griff but its getting beyond a joke, its like some kind of strange addiction to want as many Nat picks as possible. I have concerns that the fabric of your team is weakened severly by the fact that 70% of your team will only just be able to drink alchohol let alone play senior football for an AFL club.

I have traded 2 guys Gray and Bartel which I didn't have to start with anyway. I gained Buddy and Boomer I am sure they are both better than Gray also got Docuerty to replace Bartel I don't see the problem

I wonder if he will be as prolific next year with Redden coming back from injury and Dayne Beams ? joining the club ?
