Either give melbourne a priority pick, or remove priority picks all together.

If they don't deserve it,  nobody does

Ricochet

Can't blame the club for trying to get one. Whether they need one or not is another question. I think we've seen enough improvement this year to say they don't need one.

Big Mac

Quinny, how exactly does a club get in a position where it requires a priority pick without making bad decisions?

Vinny

They don't need one but considering how bad they have been, it would not be ridiculous if they got one.

This is kinda what I was trying to say. I think they're on the right track. Obviously their worst is absolutely terrible, and arguably deserving of one, but their best is quite good tbh.

It doesn't but Melbourne are not the only club to make bad decisions. Richmond have played in 2 finals series since 1982 and were a laughing stock for plenty of that time. We were in debt, we made poor decisions at the draft and trade table, poor choices of coaches etc. the penny dropped at the end of 2009 when half the club were sacked and we got Hardwick. Melbourne are no worse off than we were at that time.
You have the coach now and the right people in place, you are on the up with a much better season this year. No handouts are needed it's just embarrassing for Melbourne and unfair for the rest of the league

tell that to Fitzroy.

Melbourne aren't far off that kind of losing mentality.  If not there already

kilbluff1985

it would be a top 5 pick right?

so if Frawley goes they could have 3 top 5 picks?

What's your point? Fitzroy didn't need priority picks, they needed money to get out of the trouble they were in.
Melbourne is already getting money from the AFL and are in no danger of going under. The problems they have had are behind them and it's still going to take time to rebuild but the right people are in place and everyone can see the improvement this year

Damn right it would. Charity case  ::)

I think the fact that Frawley is likely to leave and since they'll be compensated with a pick after the one they have (so 2 and 3) means they probably won't get the priority pick.

There's no harm in lodging a submission for one though.

they beat essendon so they're capable. no way should they get one

Essendon were playing horribly, it wasn't Melbourne playing well.
