Richmond has signed the cousin of Ivan Maric as an experimental rookie.

18 year-old Ivan Soldo is a 204cm state basketball player who's never played a game of footy in his life.


He'll line up for the Northern Knights in the TAC Cup this weekend.

"Ivan is very raw, and will be a long-term project, but he has all the attributes of an AFL player and we look forward to seeing what he can bring to the group," said Richmond general manager of football, Dan Richardson.

"He has shown a great capacity and willingness to learn, and he has really thrown himself into training.

"Being able to gain some valuable playing experience in the TAC Cup will only fast-track his development, before he can join in a full pre-season with Richmond.

"Being able to go to Ivan Maric for advice has also helped introduce him to the weekly demands of AFL footy."

He's massive.
Obviously it'll take him years of development to get even close to playing an AFL game, but this seems like a good signing. We didn't give up a second round pick to bring him in  :P plus he's on the rookie list.
It's good that he has his cousin there with him, I'm sure he'll help him a lot.

Jason Holmes seems to be fairing well in the VFL for the Saints. He only started playing less then 12 months ago.
