“He’ll be out for the year,” said Giants coach Kevin Sheedy after the game.

“It is shattering. There’s no doubt about that. They’re very, very sad occasions.
They never leave your mind. We’ll just have to keep him positive in this early part of his career.”

After a delayed start to his career last year due to knee issues, Patton flashed moments throughout
this year’s NAB Cup competition that gave Giants fans hopes for a big season this year.

“Jon worked very hard during the pre-season to get himself fit and had shown what a talented young player he is
after missing a large part of last year because of surgery to his left knee,” said Giants General Manager Football Graeme Allan.

Hate to see this happen to young players but seems to becoming more and more prevalent,  Wish him all the best with his rehab was starting to really show his wares as a Forward.

I was devastated. Saw him go down and was like- flower, please be his ankle...

Went to the PA v GWS game and Patton looked very good. It's so sad to see this happen to any young footballer ( or any young kid ). Hopefully he comes back better, and shows us all how good he is, feel for him

yeah same mate. to me it really didn't seem there was much in it other than the roll of his ankle. extremely bad luck for the kid, has to get himself ready for 2014 now. good luck to him

The article is mainly about Buddy but it also mentions that Patton has started running laps, which is a good sign

It'll be excellent if he has a full preseason...

Ziplock

yeah, that's sweet.

anyone looking at him next year? With an injury discount of about 30% he'll be priced just a touch under what he was this year (probs at like 150kish)... I personally rate him for about a 65 average, and his JS is awesome :P

Looking at it, he'll probably be getting the second/third defender behind Cameron and possibly Boyd. Could average 80+ in SC.

Any chance if GWS get Buddy they could use Patton as trade bait?

From todays Trade Whispers article

"Jonathon Patton falls into the rumour category. There have been whispers he could be moved on at a club that could have fellow key forwards Franklin, Jeremy Cameron and Tom Boyd on its pay roll."

If Buddy signed, it sounds like it would make sense?

How about Patton for Mummy?

Do GWS not rate Giles at all? Or are they just giving themselves more depth?

They need more depth in the ruck position particularly in the experience stakes now that Brogan has retired.

Yep, pretty much this. Giles can't do it alone, especially with Brogan now retired. Downie's not there yet.

Ziplock

giles has been ground down by carrying the ruckload for 2 years with basically no support.

Like brogan's been good when he could play...

Don't get me excited :P

Then just offload White for a key defender and we'd be set.
