With Williams likely taking a rest for round 1 does Short ($519.8k)walk into D3? Paying more but playing.
No Whitfield, no Williams
Or Mills ($544.8K)
Certainly Short had  SC friendly game last night. Priced at BE97, played 17 games last year 96.6
Howe looked good on return too and priced the same as Short

Ringo

Only real issue with Howe apart from injury he also has the problematic Rd 14 bye along with Lloyd and Laird,  Mills will share as well.
If Williams out seriously considering Short  Current Defenders  Lloyd, Laird, McDonald and Williams.

Ever the voice of reason - thanks Ringo
Consideration of the byes always catches me
My core 4 defenders are Lloyd, Laird, Williams, Duggan
Williams => Short looks likely for me if William is a scratching R1

Small sample size, but the rule changes look to be favouring players like Short who can link up on possessional chains or run past for the get and go out of the backline.

I don't think Short will be a bad pick at all, but I don't think he'll be in the top group of defenders either

His average went up last year, but with the shorter qtrs it would have likely been less

He's not getting 43 touches every week, and Houli returning will impact his scoring imo

I think Houlis advanced age plus that performance form Short and the rule changes favouring Short would lead to him entering that tip group of defenders. I’m tossing up between him and Howe for d3. Also considering Stewart but unsure where the money is coming from.

He's a decent pick but I prefer Caleb Daniel for an extra 30k

Mat0369

He had 43 touches for a score of 160. That's a lot of uncontested pill to be getting

Mat0369

So with the games going back to full length and defenders looking to play on when kicking the ball back into play, I think the intercepters are not going to be as valuable as guys that are the designated kick out specialists.

Ridley
Stewart
Short
Ziebell

All those guys were taking the majority of the kick outs for their teams and all hit the ton. Crisp, Howe, Maynard all scored pretty well for the Pies as well.

Other guys to keep an eye on will be Rich, Daniel and Cumming. Lloyd and Ryan are already the Swans and Dockers guys already.

What’s with the Duggan pre season hype?

What’s with the Duggan pre season hype?

He averaged 96 over the last 9 games of last year, where he is playing much more midfield then. With Yeo a long way off, he is expected to stay in the midfield

Duggan vs Williams? Tempted to pick Williams even if he misses a round through suspension.

Is Witherden worth any consideration as well? He's around the same price point. I'll be shifting to either of those (or maybe finding cash for Docherty) if Williams is suspended. He looked good but not THAT good.

Is anyone consider H.Young and/or J.Webster?

I have both at this stage. Both look as though they will take the half back role, and both will take a decent amount of kick ins (shared with L. Ryan and C. Wilkie), they are a little awkwardly priced at 270-280k (higher than you’d ideally want to outlay for a cash cow) but with the lack of solid defensive rookies I think they are both pretty good to make around 130-150k while scoring about 75-80 most weeks and be an easy stepping stone to a premium around rounds 7-10

I don’t know quite as much about Young, but Webster was a proven premium back in 2018, and while I don’t think he will quite get back to them numbers, I still think he will be a solid edition back into the saints defense, and their will be a spot their waiting for him with Paton out for the season. Both their roles are SuperCoach friendly, both will play all games while healthy, I just don’t see how they can’t score 75+ every week

RaisyDaisy

Webster was not a proven premium at all. He had a nice purple patch one season, but that was it

Young and Clark are the only 2 mid priced defenders in that range I'd personally consider, but Clark has JS concerns and although Young looked good on the weekend, Ryan wasn't out there which is my concern
