It's rare for the 31-year-old Portuguese winger-cum-wizard to be hurt, but he missed the first leg of Real Madrid's 0-0 Champions League semifinal stalemate with Manchester City because of a hamstring injury on Tuesday. And Real suffered.

Both sides looked to preserve their clean sheets, rather than go for goals, and now it all comes down to next Wednesday's return at the Santiago ernabeu.

This was more excusable in City's case than Madrid's, with the English side new to this stage of the tournament, while the Spanish veterans could have won the game late on.
