Watson did come in as an allrounder...

his batting record: 4-100's and 22-50's. average 35.

bowling record: ave. 32. 69 wickets, 53 matches.

he doesn't bowl very much these days, if at all. Stats prove that he cant be in the team just for his batting, he couldn't convert a 50 to save his life. His bowling record is bad for all the hype around him. he also bowls military medium around 125-135km which is scoffed at, and once in a blue moon gets reverse swing but he cant control/utilise it.
he sits in slip all day because he is too brittle to be anywhere else, where he makes a decent attempt.

the only thing he will be remembered for is keeping more talented younger players out of the side (like Faulkner) whilst he does the absolute bare minimum to get a game.

WHAT I CAN'T FATHOM IS HOW IN 2005 HE WAS GETTING GAMES WHILST MIKE HUSSEY HAD TO MAKE 4 flowerING TRIPLE CENTURIES IN FIRST CLASS CRICKET TO EVEN GET A GAME!!!!!!

Hussey was neglected by CA big time, but they were in an "invincibles" phase so it was very hard to just drop players like Ponting, Hayden, Langer, etc.

Also Hussey started as an opener rather than a middle-order batsman, which hindered his chances a bit

Definitely deserved to get in the side before Clarke and Watson IMO.... But he's gone on to become an absolute legend and will forever be my cricketing idol

I'd prefer Faulks over Watson to be honest

3. S.Marsh
4. Smith
5. M.Marsh
6. Faulkner

not the strongest looking batting line up though
Can the elder Marsh brother be the replacement for Rogers now that the poor Mr "63" has left us? :-\  Im not sure who else can Open unless Khawaja does it!

Warner
S Marsh
Smith
Mitch
Clarke/Doolan/Khawaja/Furgeson/Bailey/Watto ect
Faulkner

With Warner there the batting looks much stronger :D
I'd love to see Khawaja back in the team!
Amen Brother!

I hate how they neglect him and other guys like Hodge, and let White Goodmans like Watson in permanently!?

Hussey is my all time cricketing hero! averaged around 70-80 in his first few seasons

Smith needs to bat at 3.

Thought this too, our key missing ingredient since Punter and would be an excellent way to stamp his authority as Captain

PowerBug

I was saying Smith should've moved up to three when they needed it (In the UAE) now he can bat wherever. Hopefully he can be at 4 tomorrow though, can't see Watson being pushed out yet.

Any chance of Watto making some runs. If he doesnt ton up at least once this series id say its time to move him on.... Cant be batting at 3 an averaging just over 30.. Especially when he is only bowling 4 overs a game!

Nige

Johnson's gonna have a field day this test I reckon.
