Ross's game plan may be very affective but I don't think it's very entertaining for opposition supporters to watch just saying

Quite entertaining for opposition supporters yesterday ;) Its the neutrals that are complaining. #upthehawks

the 3rd quarter was good :P

ross's gameplan doesn't allow for wasted opportunities... hence the final outcome yesterday.

Master Q

Not sure if I've already said this but Ross couldn't do anymore. A coach can't do anything about poor set shock kicking on the day.

Still the No.1 coach in the league.

Watching the GF replay today and Freo did butchered their chances with 18 marks inside 50, over 30 shots for only 8 goals.

They struggled to get a 'bounce' all day and turned the ball over a number of times. I think I counted Hill 3 times in the first half. I do think they were overwhelmed by the occasion.

There were a couple of dubious umpiring decisions that resulted in goals (Franklin's 50 and Cyril Rioli's HTB) especially in the context of a GF.

Personally I dont think Hawthorn played well, I think they made less mistakes and made the most of their opportunities. Freo had their moments but when you play the best team over the last two years you need to be on your game.

Dudge

Not the biggest fan of Lyon, but have the utmost respect for him (if that makes sense). I definitely don't think it was his fault. Not sure Freo choked (remember we were meant to be the biggest chockers in the early 2000's), but certainly believe they got stage fright. In saying that, not the entire team, but certain individuals seemed to let it get to them. I still say they put up a brave fight, and lost no respect in the end. I reckon we'll be seeing a fair bit of Freo come future Septembers

A few queries ...

q88 - agree Freo vs Swans was exciting but that's because Swans were undermanned and knackered. A team gagging for a beating.

MasterQ - 7 seasons and ZERO flags does not equate to the best coach in the league - no way.

Mr Mullet - plenty of bounces against the Premiers too if you look again and a few frees missed the other way too - none more 'interesting' than Fyfe's rugby throw resulting in a goal and on it goes. Pretty even umpiring and bounces really - have watched it a couple of times now -  ;D

Dudge - too true

No flags does not mean the coach isn't great. A coach can only take his players so far.

The "undermanned and knackered" Swans were still in the top 4 teams when they lost to Freo.

The umpiring was dodgy against Fremantle for most of the first half, not that it really mattered as they basically dug their own hole

kilbluff1985

You claimed he was the best in the league not just great lol

tor01doc

Not saying Lyon is not a decent coach - just saying that he would be pretty embarrassed to be called the number one coach in the league.

Of the top 4 teams - by year's end, Sydney had more injuries and were more done in than the other 3.

Malthouse, Roos, Clarkson, Longmire - all lesser coaches than Ross Lyon - not on your nelly!

Bones Bombers

Seriously it was only 15 points. Freo just didn't put the score on the board when they should have, that's all it came down to. They probably should have won.

Mailman the 2nd

I never said he was the best coach, but he'd be in the top 4.

I'd say the best 4 coaches are, ironically, the best 4 teams in the comp.

Longmire, Lyon, Clarkson and Scott.

You can't really compare any of them, as their achievements are relatively unique

kilbluff1985

Oh right Q said he was the vest coach in the league

Sorry

tor01doc

BB - should have ? Agree could have - but with all KPI's even and Hawthorn's tackle count so dominant, one might be lead to believe the Hawks were harder at it.

Even game with Freo missing more chances - a la Geelong in '08 and this year's premiers in last year's big one.

Can't wait for next year.

Bones Bombers

They managed to get the shots on goal, just missed badly on a large number of occasions. FARK will be busy this off season!
Hawthorn won in 08 by rushing behinds to gain possession, very clever but changed the rules of the game. Probably should have been fined for bringing the game in to disrepute lol.

Now all we want to know is what compensation we get for Spuddy!

Noz

I said it grand final day and i will say it again on here.

Hawthorn did not beat Fremantle.

Fremantle beat themselves.
