IF THE Sydney Swans are to defend their premiership this year, it is becoming increasingly likely it will have to be without their superstar veteran Adam Goodes.

Goodes hasn't played since round 13 after undergoing knee surgery and is still listed as one to weeks away from returning to fitness, with just two games remaining in the home-and-away season.

While the perception from the outside has been Goodes will slot back into the team just before or even during the finals, Swans coach John Longmire admitted on Thursday that time was running out for the dual Brownlow medallist.

The 33-year-old is still getting pain from his knee and if he doesn't show significant improvement in the coming week, it is likely his 2013 campaign will be over.

Goodes wont start training with the team till maybe next week. Even then i wouldnt want to risk him. We have made the top 4 give him the Cats, Hawks and first final off and then maybe get him back

It's looking extremely doubtful.

To be honest, I rather him just sit out the rest of the year and be right to go around again next year.

However, I'm not a Swannies supporter so you guys may think differently.

He wont play this week, but he should train. Best case scenario is we beat the Hawks and he gets 2 weeks to come up for a home final.

He has pulled up from his run last week better than expected but i still dont think he will play this Friday either

Ricochet

So if he doesn't play any games in the next few weeks but says he's ready to go for the GF... do you play him  :P

SydneyRox

I think if he can get up for the Prelim then you would be brave to risk him in the GF.

The swans would also be loathe to drop someone who may have played a large role in getting us there...

I would say no. If he doesnt play next week his year may be done.

Capper

I agree, but how can you not put Goodes into a Swans team during finals

Its going to be a very tough call
