Lachie Schultz had such a quiet start to the 2024 season at his new club that Collingwood fans were wondering whether they had bought a lemon off Fremantle in the off season. An decent outing against the Hawks before the bye two weeks ago will give them more hope that they can get value for money, and will also interesting fantasy coaches in draft leagues looking for starters from the free agent pool. Schultz is a roleplayer first and foremost with almost no skills at accumulation, so his startable scores are not reliable, and against Port Adelaide today he may struggle again.

Schulz plays straight to Hogan
A mature-aged selection with a propensity for the big sticks, Lachlan Schulz made a round 1 debut as a half forward for two goals from 17 touches, though he spent the vast majority of the year in the reserves at much the same rates. Schulz will aim to entrench himself in the senior outfit in 2020. Middling statistical outputs at junior and WAFL level, plus a lot of trade-in journeymen who are ahead of him in the pecking order, suggest our focus should turn to others.
Schulz knows something
One half of the mature-aged pair to join Fremantle as first-year players is Lachlan Schultz from Williamstown in the VFL. After an ankle injury affected the outset of his 2018 campaign, once back on the field, the forward averaged 95 fantasy points to go with his 17 touches and eight contested possessions per game, in the elite echelon of VFL forwards. Schultz has a body ready made for the AFL and will put pressure on Travis Colyer for a spot in the Dockers’ forward line. While he is a good chance to suit up for the seniors from time to time, since he is untried at the top level, he’s better kept on the watchlist than taken with a draft pick at the stage.
