For some reason Josh Carr had decided to play only two genuine key defenders, relying on undersized Power players like Lachie Jones or Logan Evans to man up much bigger opponents, but long-term injury to Esava Ratguolea has now forced his hand and heralded the return of BZT. It's not as if the ex-Bomber's form in the magoos was bad, the new coach just wanted more run from defence. BZT will now settle into CHB in front of Aliir Aliir.

BZT, wrong answer
A single senior game at the end of his second listed season was a slightly disappointing return for Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, though he was re-signed for two more years based on some excellent VFL form where he specialised in intercept marks at a fantasy rate of 54. Essendon has a lot of those types, and Zerk-Thatcher was perhaps unlucky that those in front of him in the depth chart turned their injury fortunes around to play out full seasons. Even if he gets picked for round 1, his game is not conducive to consistent fantasy scoring.
BZT not yet berserk
Befitting his reputation as a project player, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher played out his first AFL-listed season in the VFL at a rate of 12 disposals and four marks per game. Zerk-Thatcher looks to be a long-term key defensive prospect, which means he's probably due a debut this year where we can discover just how ball-averse he is.

Zerk-Thatcher will be a project player for the club without threatening much in the way of interest for fantasy coaches, especially not this year.
