Zac Fisher has been given the high accolade by pundit David King of being capable of becoming an All-Australian in his favoured role of half forward flanker. That is a lot of pressure for a still-young player who has only just cemented his spot in the best 22 of a good team. It's also a big ask for a small player who doesn't have the body to play inside, as he has to rely on his delivery inside 50, which is exquisite at times. He only has to look at teammate Jack Martin for an example of a talented player who never lived up to his potential. An interesting keeper league asset.

Zac Fisher can play in central midfield and as a crumbing forward, which is a good set of skills to have in modern footy where so many mids have to rotate to attack to save on limited interchanges. It can also mean that a player gets stuck in the less preferred role when the team's list needs means they need a goalsneak more than they do another coalface engineer, and so it may prove at Carlton for Fisher... at least until Marc Murphy retires, maybe. Fantasy owners have been disappointed this season, but he may be one who looks better in future years.
Fisher casts wide
Ironically for the speedy Zac Fisher, it was a case of second-year breakout and third year blues, dropping by six points in what many thought would be another upward campaign. He showed immense promise with a five-game purple patch averaging 86 but his scoring dropped thereafter, due to spending more time forward in the final two months of the year. Fisher's value is largely dependent on his role, which could be impacted by Jack Martin. Should the former Sun be a forward line mainstay, it could spell more midfield minutes for Fisher. A strong watchlist candidate, particularly due to FWD status. Keep a keen eye on him for a potential late-round selection.
Zac is a Fisher of men
The faith that Carlton has shown in Zac Fisher started paying off during his second season, including four out of six games over 20 disposals around the byes. He averaged more clearances than Marc Murphy from seven less touches per game, but only scored above the midfielder baseline thrice out of 17 attempts. It is hard to identify Fisher's 1-wood, so maybe his best asset is the completeness of his game rather than any one particular skill. This much senior experience in a 20-year-old is also a good thing. A second consecutive 24-point jump is unlikely, but he's just about startable as a fantasy forward already, making him a late pick.
Cut bait with Fisher
Carlton committed to playing Zac Fisher for a full season in the seniors in 2017, often starting deep in the forward 50. The result was four total goals from 17 matches, from an average of 12 touches. Fisher might end up turning into a good player. He is starting from so far behind startable score range that even if he lifts his ratings by 20 points, he's still not going to be worth picking up.
