Will Day has been training with the midfielders in preparation for today's game, in which Changkuoth Jiath returns to the Hawthorn side. The Hawks are now blessed with a wide range of options off half back among its younger brigade so it is interesting to see Day trialled in the centre. He is not quite tall enough to play key position as a defender and probably lacks the strength to compete as a lockdown defender, so it's either a flank or a wing for him long term and Sam Mitchell might as well see if he's good enough to survive across the centreline.

Brand new Day
Late to mature and relatively unheard of outside of his home state to the midway point of his draft year, South Australian native Will Day rose to prominence through the SANFL under 18s where he averaged 26 touches and eight marks. The slightly-built Day will require bulk to his gangling frame before regularly competing in the primary competition. A player in the mould of the departed Grant Birchall, coach Alastair Clarkson will be hopeful of a speedy maturation. Perhaps a prospect for twelve months' time.
