Entering his 15th season, Travis Varcoe has washed-up veteran written all over him. Having never been exceptionally fantasy relevant with only one 70+ season at Collingwood, not much looks like changing as the ex-Cat's career dwindles into its latter stages. He will miss the early stages of the season after surgery on a shoulder injury sustained in January. Varcoe will play when in form to provide on-field leadership and support Nathan Buckley's obsession with forward pressure but he won't deliver anything notable for fantasy coaches. Rests are a given, as are injury possibilities even beyond this random training injury. Thanks but no thanks.

Travis just wants to sing
Only twice in his career has Travis Varcoe averaged over 70 points in a season. He returned to be a semi-regular name in Nathan Buckley’s starting lineup in 2018 with 16 appearances, but not since 2015 has the speedy half forward flanker played every available match as the veteran has battled injury issues over his career. Now on the wrong side of 30, and battling with perhaps the league’s strongest midfield, Varcoe will have to scrap to hold his spot in the starting 22. Even if he were to play every available game, his historical averages aren’t anywhere near start-worthy, and barely scrape in for bench cover. Pass.
Travis keen not to play cold
An early suspension then bad injuries to hamstring and elbow meant that Travis Varcoe couldn't manage more than four games in a row in 2017, shifting from attack to defence in round 5 but never topping 15 disposals. That's about his career average. Varcoe has always been about quality over quantity wherever he has played. This is not a formula for success in fantasy leagues with standard scoring. In top form he can be a low-end starter, and if he catches fire he will be in your free agent pool.
