Tom McCarthy has been one of the finds of the 2025 AFL campaign, a mature-aged pickup coming into the West Coast Eagles side from the mid-season draft and looking immediately like a 200-game veteran. His role started at half back, including a very lucrative job as kick in taker that made him extremely popular with fantasy coaches, but in recent weeks he has been tried in midfield as Brady Hough was earlier in the season, Hough reverting back to his old half back role. Perhaps neither of them are the answer to the Eagles' undermanned midfield, but it's a good experience.
