Initially drafted to fill a small forward role, category B rookie Sam Wicks has found a home in the reserves' midfield over the last two years at a rate of 22 touches and a high of 40, plus eight tackles. Wicks will need to continue to show good, consistent form in order to make a push toward a senior selection in the future. Unproven in the big leagues, it's best to ignore him altogether for now.

Slow burn for Wicks
Another Sydney Academy prospect, Sam Wicks is a small forward with the ability to play through the midfield or across half back. He averaged 15 touches, four tackles, and a goal per game in his 13 NEAFL matches, and will be looking to improve his stats in 2019. Still on the Swans’ rookie list, it looms extremely unlikely that Wicks will be given any senior opportunities this year. Give him time to develop his craft over another NEAFL season and then reassess. It’s a pass on Wicks for 2019.
