Renowned for his ability to evade tacklers and clear congestion, Sam Simpson averaged 20 disposals and five tackles across 19 VFL appearances on his way to claiming the Cats' 2019 VFL best & fairest award. Despite showings in the senior squad in 2017 and 2018, this remained Simpson's strongest campaign by a country mile. The 21-year-old Geelong Falcons product was rewarded for his efforts and upgraded to the senior list, so his case for senior opportunities come 2020 couldn't be stronger. Becoming a mainstay is still far from the horizon so he shouldn't be drafted.

None of Sam
A knee injury caused Simpson to miss the early part of 2018, then after some impressive VFL action he was given the recall to the senior side in round 17 to add onto his tally of five games the year prior. When on the park, the skillful midfielder has shown potential, but hasn’t delivered any stellar fantasy numbers as yet. Simpson adds midfield depth to the Cats’ list, but is still classified as a rookie and therefore would require a number of factors outside of his control to fall his way. Don’t assume that just because he’s already played AFL football that he’s a worth pick. Avoid Simpson altogether.
Donuts for Simpson
A bare six VFL games was all Sam Simpson got before being a late inclusion for his first two senior games, ending up playing six after the bye for a total of 56 touches and two goals. If ever there was a lock for second-year syndrome, Simpson looks to be it as he's built like a Hills Hoist. He is not a natural fantasy player.
