The return of Sam Hayes to SANFL action in his second year in the system after an ACL rupture was further interrupted by glandular fever, though he returned for the finals series to total 11 appearances in a ruck/forward role interchanging with Peter Ladhams. The departures of Paddy Ryder and BIlly Frampton in the off season and the overall dysfunctionality of the Power forward line mean that the club will be looking for new options in the new year, though Hayes is probably behind Ladhams in the queue. He is one for the future.
Hayes still in manger

Hayes hits the turf
An ACL tear in the first week of June last year put paid to Sam Hayes's first listed campaign, following seven SANFL games. Hayes will return mid-2019 and resume in the magoos, as the club has strengthened its ruck stocks in the off season.
Sun shines on Hayes
Though he played mostly in ruck at junior level and was rarely beaten to average 24 hit outs, Sam Hayes also performed creditably at times as a key forward to eke out a goal per game. Hayes will be groomed in the SANFL to eventually replace Patrick Ryder, but he's not going to make seniors for any length of time in 2018 unless things go very pear-shaped.
