Brought in to cover injuries in the middle part of last year as he was (in the immortal words of Michelle from Hot Shots Part Deux) the best of what's left, Ryan Garthwaite was dropped after the bye following three losses where his opponents kicked five, four and four goals. Garthwaite's return to VFL level came after David Astbury returned to the seniors, suggesting he may not be best 22 post the retirement of Alex Rance. Even when in the senior side, his role is too deep for fantasy purposes.
Wait goes on for Garthwaite

Long waits for Garthwaite
A couple of senior games filling in to cover big bodies in defence were rewards for toil for Ryan Garthwaite in season two, which was otherwise spent in the VFL without much statistical return. Garthwaite is not a fantasy player, and in the Richmond system he will have no scope to become one given the defensive role they have groomed him to play.
Daryl is a draught horse
As had been expected, Ryan Garthwaite spent his first listed year in the VFL working on his game, mostly in defence with a brief foray forward in July. His numbers were decent early then dropped away late. Garthwaite spent his junior years as a forward and it looks like the club wants him in defence, so he is likely to resume in the seconds with his premiership clubmates staying in the senior side for now.
