Years of hard work as one of the VFL's best players paid off for Michael Gibbons, who grasped his senior opportunity with both hands. Rotating through the Blues' forward line, Gibbons collected just under a goal per game with a 9:5 disposal ratio, a significant drop from a rate of 29 with Williamstown. Gibbons' potential to be a useful addition depends on his role. The chance of being given more midfield time and replicating his VFL days are slim. We'd love to see more of the three-figure scores against the Crows but there aren't any indications of role changes on the horizon. One for the pool.

Gibbons got that funk
After winning every major award in the VFL, some of them twice, Michael Gibbons finally gets a shot at moving to the AFL after being picked up in January. He averaged 29 touches with seven clearances and 6.5 inside 50s last year for Williamstown, though only nine goals in 21 appearances speaks to a lesser focus on forward play than in previous years. He was so dominant that he was often tagged, with limited effect. The problem with ranking Gibbons for fantasy is that Steve Silvagni has already mentioned that he could help the Blues in attack as well as midfield, and his body shape suggests he might spend time away from the engine room. It's a matter of list management: do you play the kids in the guts from round 1, or try to win games? His JLT role will be keenly watched by all fantasy coaches, as he has Michael Barlow upside.
