Youngster Matthew Flynn is on the recovery trail after mid-season ACL surgery. In his last fully-fit season, the forward-turned-ruckman averaged just shy of 15 possessions per game, ranking in the top five across the NEAFL. Flynn is yet to debut and that's how it'll stay. Expected to return to match fitness in June or July, and now thrust further down the pecking order with Sam Jacobs coming aboard, let the Narrandera product slide into the pool.
Flynn to stay grounded

Flynn still grounded
Initially developing as a forward, Flynn has spent the past two of his four listed seasons leading the Giants ruck division in the NEAFL. He gathered a touch under 15 disposals per game last season, ranked fourth amongst ruckmen at that level. He has shown a propensity forward of the ball, generating just on three score involvements and one score assist per outing. More development is required of Flynn for the Giants hierarchy to be confident in helping them pursue a flag. Shane Mumford coming out of retirement and Dawson Simpson firmly ahead in the pecking order suggests Flynn will have to bide his time further. He will hold little fantasy relevance till he holds the number one ruck position.
